World Music Concert Report - Zydeco Music
When deciding on a music concert for this course, World Music 327, there were five different choices for me to choose from. It was required to attend a concert musical performance of world or ethnic music. The music selected for the purpose of the concert had to be from music I would not normally focus on or attend a performance in that particular style of music. It was definitely outside of the box or my comfort zone, which I am glad I attended. For me, I decided based on location due to the fact that I wanted to take my entire family for a nice day out, and enjoy some ethnic music that we have never experienced. With this in mind, and not knowing what I had in store for me, I decided to attend the concert on July 29, 2012 at La Jolla Cove to watch and observe Theo & the Zydeco Patrol. This concert was scheduled to play from 2 to 4 pm, but went till approximately 4:15pm, with an intermission at the middle of the concert at 3, that lasted 15 minutes. The concert was part of the 29th Annual Summer Concert Series 2012, and was named “La Jolla Concerts by the Sea”. All concerts for these particular series are free of charge to the public and are family oriented, due to the fact the location of the concert was right next to the beach and provided entertainment for the family. For this particular band this week’s concert was sponsored by Cymer, Incorporated.
Audience demographics were made up of a culturally diverse community and consisted of men, women and children. All nationalities and genders were represented throughout the audience. We had participants from different states here to see Theo & The Zydeco Patrol. Residents from Mexico, Texas, Oregon, Ohio, Louisiana, Arizona, a family from Canada, and of course, California was all present at the concert. There were also many family pets in attendance (dogs and

On February 22nd 2013, I had my first bargemusic at Fulton Street pier in Brooklyn. Bargemusic is an old barge that converted into a chamber music hall. It was a great pleasure to have such a terrific concert on a Friday night. The internal of the barge was so classical with aged wall chairs. In the middle of the room is a stage with a piano that was shining when lights were facing above it. A stupendous view of the Manhattan skyline out the glass wall was placed behind the stage which gives a perfect background of the performer. The performer was a piano musician called Olga Vinokur. The convert was officially started at 8:00pm after her short introduction.…

A fiddle, accordion, guitar, and a washboard are all you need to create the sweet sound of Zydeco. Zydeco music is a mixture of Blues or Jazz music with an upbeat tempo. Zydeco music has grown with my family. It is like a china dish your great grandmother passes down. The music is unique from the message it sends to the crazy two stepping dance that goes along with it. Zydeco music plays a significant role in my life.…

Upon entering the Valley Performing Art Center, I was greeted by an usher that was handing out programs. The auditorium had large curved pieces of wood on the roof for better acoustics. On the stage was a large backdrop with numerous amounts of different colored lights shining on it. The stage was oriented in such a way where each musician could be seen. The band consisted of a piano, vibraphone, guitar, bass, drums, and an ensemble of saxophones, trumpets, trombones, flutes, and clarinets. The audience sat in seats in front of the band on the first floor and I was seated near the front. The show started with the John Daversa giving an introduction of the show and the special guests. Throughout the concert, special musicians got to come to the front and play solos into a microphone.…

I went to Mr. O’Neal’s second jazz concert today, which took place at a little bit far but very nice jazz studio in San Pedro. There was a beautiful neighborhood nearby, and it was the first time I’ve ever been to San Pedro. I was kind of tired since I went there right after I got off from work, but I still be excited and couldn’t wait for the wonderful music. My friends and I had a seat before the concern really started, it was a warm and sweet little room. Then I looked at the little stage in front where Mr. O’Neal’s going to perform later, it was just fit to everything. I like the design of the stage: they had colorful lighting on five separate pieces pure white background , a new classic piano, a bright blue jazz drum which I like the best, and a set of red African drum, they really made me look forward to the show. My friend also ordered the pizza the Mr. O’Neal recommended, and we were ready to enjoy the concert!…

Before taking Jazz class I barely knew anything about this type music. Six different bands performed fifteen pieces. Most of the pieces are written by popular Jazz composers, such as “Cantaloupe Island” by Herbie Hancock or “Donna Lee” by Charlie Parker. Also, there was one band that performed pieces written by its members, which really impressed me. For example, “Preparation” was composed by Alex Reiff, who plays bass in the band called Krista White 3 PM Combo. In this report I would like to pay attention on two pieces that I enjoyed the most.…

For my humanities report, I attended the Wind Ensemble concert at the Timko Barton lobby on October 8, 2015. The concert was so inspiring and refreshing for me since I love music and am currently studying music. Sitting with some many people and listening to beautiful music from a variety of genres was so restoring to the soul. Dr. John Jenkins, the director, was so motivating in every piece of music and of the program. The concert program ran smoothly as the ensemble band transitioned gradually to each different song piece. In addition the scenery added to the peaceful presence during the show. Since the concert took place in the lobby of the music hall, people saw the bright lights coming from the ceiling and they also enjoyed to majestic surrounding of the large glass windows. The Wind Ensemble concert event was a smoothing time to reflect on…

The Zuni Lullaby illustrates a contrast with Plains singing to assist in confirming that there is not an individual style to Native American music. Through the Native American styles of music, repetition becomes a prominent feature. This is not because the Native Americans can't find words to fit into the music, but because repetitions with slight variations are often too insignificannot…

Imagine it is prime time prohibition era in the city of New Orleans. Music is blasting, the alcohol is freely flowing, and there are crowds of dancing flappers and dapper gentlemen all over the French Quarter. For decades, New Orleans has been the epicenter for jazz music in America. It is essential to the culture, economy, and history of the city. Over the last few years, however, some of New Orleans’s city officials seem to think the beat has left the city, and its personality is suffering because of it. Others believe New Orleans is tired and old, and should be used for no more than a ghostly museum of what used to be: a vibrant explosion of all different kinds of culture. Two articles specifically have opposite views of the same topic of revival: while one encourages the rebirth of Jazz and the lifestyle that comes with it, the other seems to side with the ever-changing culture of America, rather than New Orleans’s rich background.…

Earlier this afternoon, I went to Andy’s Jazz Club on 11 East Hubbard Street in Chicago, and watched John Bany perform. John Bany is said to be one of Chicago’s most creative bass players. Bany was born and raised in Ohio, but has had the privilege of calling Chicago his home for a little over thirty years. John Bany studied bass with Charlie Medcalf, Harold Roberts and Richard Topper, whom all just so happen to be bassists with the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra, and he also holds a degree in music from the Miami University, in Oxford, Ohio. John Bany won the United States Air Force Worldwide Talent Contest in 1964, and then he went out on the road with the Jimmy Dorsey Orchestra and successively served as the jazz editor for the International Society of Bassists Magazine, from 1984 through 1988.…

Unlike the first concert I went to a few months ago this one actually grabbed my attention. Every ensemble was very talented and something different to bring to the table. The many songs performed in the concert were all very well put together pieces. Though out of the eleven songs played I picked three of which I really enjoyed the most. All three songs were performed by the first ensemble directed by Mark Buselli. The first song was That Old Black Magic. The song contained a brief saxophone solo that was played very swiftly. I found the song particularly interesting because it was…

I strolled through the hallway and noticed how many people were crowded into one small space. Club Diesel isn’t the typical sports bar that you usually would see on the strip down in East Carson. It did not have the open doorways or small bars with televisions, but it had been just as compact. The only element that assisted with the amount of people inside was that it was multi-leveled allowing you to escape upstairs to have some breathing room. 3Lau was coming on in a half hour, so we had some downtime to socialize and relax in the crowd, which consisted mostly of college students in their late teens and mid-twenties. The crowds’ age had helped in the enjoyment since related and socialized with most of the people around me. We met some people who were a little too insane and others who just wanted to sit around the entire time. We bounced from people to people introducing ourselves and creating small talk. Finally after waiting, 3Lau announced his name and showed up on the stage in front of the dark…
