Unit 2 Lab 2.1
Lab 2.1
Exercise 2.1.1
All these elements are necessary because each allows the other to function and do its job. Without Media the signal cannot transmit. Without Interface the computer cannot access the Media. Without the signal the electricity or copper wires cannot transmit information. Without Pattern there would be no established format for the signals. And timing lets the devices know when the pattern starts and ends.
Exercise 2.1.2
Almost all networks in use today are based in some fashion on the Open Systems Interconnection (OSI) standard. The core of this standard is the OSI Reference Model, a set of seven layers that define the different stages that data must go through to travel from one device to another over a network. But the OSI is just a guideline.
Exercise 2.1.3
The other networking services are:
RIP Listener
Simple TCP/IP Services
UPnP User Interface
Exercise 2.1.4
Wi-Fi wireless networks support ad hoc connections between devices. Ad hoc Wi-Fi networks are pure peer to peer compared to those utilizing wireless routers as an intermediate device.

Exercise 2.1.5

Lab 2.1 Review
1)
A peripheral device is an internal or external device that connects directly to a computer but does not contribute to the computer's primary function. It helps access and use the functionalities of a computer. (ex. Mouse, flash drive, printer) Network devices are components used to connect computers or other electronic devices together so that they can share files or resources. (ex. Router, dsl filter, Ethernet cable)
2)
The fewer amount of connections the fast the connection speed with the current connections.
3)
A peer-to-peer (P2P) network is created when two or more PCs are connected and share resources without going through a separate server computer.
Benefits:
1) It is easy to install and so is the configuration of computers on this network.
2) All the resources and contents are shared by all the peers, unlike server-client

Why are standards so important for NICs, connectors, and media? The NIC works at the physical and Data Link Layer only and does not use TCP or IP those are programs that are on your computer. Standards are put in place to make everything work good and ease. They are also developed to allow teaching. Without having standards there is chaos, in the computer world chaos means everyone goes back to using typewriters and mailing things through the post office.…

With OSI (Open Systems Interconnection) was developed to help standardize networking. The OSI model has been an element of computer network design since the early 1980’s. With the OSI model it shows how the network protocols and equipment should communicate and work together as one. With the OSI as a standard with in ISO (International Standards Organization) todays current technology does not always conform to the standard of the ISO, but it…

Wired networking connections provide the foundation of the Local Area Network. Incoming connections, Data Center interconnections, IT closet facilities, and stationary computing devices have all traditionally been connected to the network via a series of cables. The primary benefit to a wired connection is that the wire provides a standard level of service (performance, security, reliability) which can be relied upon in all situations. Typically, wired connections (correctly installed) have an extremely low failure rate and provide a standard of service which helps provide a very low cost for support per connection. Once…

    10. In order to craft back-up and recovery procedures, you need to review the IT systems, hardware, software and communications infrastructure needed to support business operations, functions and define how to maximize availability. This alignment of IT systems and components must be based on business operations , functions, and prioritizations. This prioritization is usually the result of a risk assessment and how those risks, threats, and vulnerabilities impact business operations and functions. What is the proper sequence of development and implementation for these following plans?…

I can recall a time where I had to maintain focus and persistence in spite of obstacles that I was facing at the time. This is in fact, in recent history as I was going through a combination of events that seems to have come out of nowhere. I am a full time student, and set to graduate in two quarters. Around the end of Spring quarter and beginning of the Summer Quarter, I lost my job. In addition to that, I was the nearing the end of a long term relationship. Not to mention, it is the start of the Summer! I had to motivation to continue in my education. My main focus was to find work. Money that I had saved up was fading, and fading fast. What makes matters worse, I was unable to receive unemployment. I knew that I needed to find a job soon. So as you can imagine, that last thing on my mind is getting my education, much less finishing up the summer quarter. But, with all that was going on I’m my life, and the combination of emotions and feelings coming and going in my head, I know that I did not come this far to quit now. If I can compare those feeling to a football season, then it would be similar in many ways. All the hard work, injuries, fatigue, blood, and sweat that was endured during the regular season and playoffs, just to give up and fold during the Super Bowl is not an option. In conclusion, I did maintain focus and I made it through the summer quarter, but barely. It was not very pretty, in fact was my worst quarter in my time in school, but nevertheless, I made it through. I also started a new job that pays well. And as far as that relationship, well, let’s just say I’ve already moved to bigger and better things. And so far so good.…
