Types of Teamwork in the Uniformed Public Service Essay Example
Types of teamwork activates

At college I have taken part in the following teamwork activates. They are used in conjunction with Tuckman and Belbin to develop teams in the unformed public services. Paper Based Disaster Scenario

The paper based scenario task that I took part in was the nuclear scenario disaster. Our goal as a team was to pick 3 of 10 very different people with different backgrounds to be put into a safe bunker and to keep the human race alive after nuclear holocaust. This task got everyone in the team involved and as team leader i made sure that we all voiced our view to the team, this however this brought on members to disagree with each other but soon enough we all manage to agree.

Outdoor Activities

As a part of our course we had a chance to go on two trips one a simple walking trip to the Lincolnshire Wolds and then an overnight walking trip to the peak district. The walk in the Lincolnshire Wolds we simply had to walk from one place to another in our teams and as a team us a map to follow points and get us where we needed to be. On the second trip to the peak district we had to walk from the bus to our camp, using a map and our orienteering to get us to the camp. We got their relatively easy, when we got to the camp we then had to put up our tents and as a team it went as planned. On the second leg of our walk some of us got tired and others members encouraged them to walk on slowly we made it to our destination.

Fun based

In our lesson as a fun teamwork activity we got given a task to build a tower out of spaghetti sticks and marshmallows. We were put in teams and whoever had the biggest tower after half an hour would win. In our teams we had to plan how we were going to build the tower and we came up with a good plan and then we had to build it, the spaghetti kept breaking and we must have gone through many different ways of completing the task.

Drill
Drill is always a good way to build a team cohesiveness.

Some really effective moments when we worked as a team was when we had to organise the fish and chips and when we had to set up for the quiz night, we all stuck together and set up the hall in under an hour. I think that at the end of the event once we had counted how much we had raised, we all felt proud of ourselves at what we had achieved and this really showed as we were excited to let our guests know how much they had helped us and the charity.…

When it comes to teamwork, most people will consider teamwork in terms of being part of a baseball, basketball, or football team. In contrast, a team is “really just a group of people who use their skills, experience, and knowledge to work toward a common goal” (Beverly K. Bachel, 2007). Teams working together in the workplace are extremely productive and profitable. Teams working together increase problem-solving skills and innovation, quality, and decrease turnover and absenteeism. (Scarnati, J 2006) Teams have an overall high success rate when well structured and the communication between the team members stays open throughout the project. A team is a collection of individuals who have gathered to achieve the same…

JOTC uses teamwork everyday if you think about it. One way the cadets at Rivercrest use teamwork is when we went to the service learning project at Arkansas Children’s Hospital. We all came together to lay mulch, cut bushes, and rack for the five hard working gentlemen there. Without our teamwork we would not have gotten the job done. Everyone knew their duties and they all applied to them.…

In a care oriented environment, to achieve any worthwhile results, one must work as part of a team. Great practice is a fine thing but unless it is part of a communicative, dynamic team then it falls down as soon as the practitioner finishes their shift. As Adrian Ward in 1993 puts it “Teamwork should never be regarded as an optional extra in this sort of work, it is the heart of the matter.”…

The importance of teamwork lies in the significant effect that it produces, especially when being properly applied and managed. It creates flexibility and coordination among members and enables them to use their talents and participate in taking decisions. It also provides a good deal of acceptance, understanding and physical interaction, which cannot be gained individually. This is the reason why members rely on teamwork to get the feedback, attention and moral support which they constantly need. As a result, teamwork leads to a great improvement in the quality of work produced, making the process more fun and less frustrating.…

Self- Reflection When reflecting on the development and progress of my communication and teamwork skills throughout the semester, it is clear that I have made a significant improvement in these skills. This improvement can be demonstrated through comparing the results of the Everest simulations. For example, the results of the first Everest simulation, found in appendix A, reveal poor communication and teamwork skills, because I did not reach any of my individual goals, achieved a 0 and therefore, failed the simulation. In the first simulation, we experienced quite a few of the disadvantages of group decision making such as satisficing and groupthink. Satisficing is the tendency to seek a decision that is ‘good enough’ rather than to push on in pursuit of other possible solutions.…
