Book Report

By Monica Dobslaw

The book I decided to read for my book report was; Twilight.

1. Who is the author? What information do you know about the author?
The author of this novel is named Stephenie Meyer. She is the author of the whole twilight series and two other books called; Hell on Earth and The Host. Stephenie is 38 years old and has sold more than 50 million books in less than 5 years.

2. What is the story about? Briefly describe what happens.
The story is about a teenager called Isabella Swan, who moves to a town called Forks, to live with her dad. She meets at her new school a mysterious, but very handsome looking boy, called Edward Cullen. Although his ‘irresistible looks and charms’ capture everyone’s attention, he has always managed to keep quiet about his ‘gift’. Although the two become close, she hears 'ridiculous' rumours that Edward and his family are more than just ‘beautiful humans’, but despite having many theories she cannot bring herself to believe that there is a supernatural explanation for Edward's behaviour.

3. What makes the story interesting? Describe three moments in the text that were interesting. Explain why those moments were interesting. * The first favourite moment of the book is when the two meet. I have always thought it was interesting as I saw the Twilight movie before I read the book and I like to see how similar Edward’s reactions are to Bella in the book, compared to the movie. * The second favourite moment would have to be; when Bella and Edward are in the meadow. Edward finally confesses and shares his secret with her, that he is a vampire. I find this interesting because it’s kind of a breath taking moment, almost as if the whole story finally makes sense. * My third and last favourite moment would have to be when Edward saves Bella from his enemy, James. James is also a vampire who ends up biting Bella so she would either die, or turn into a vampire. Edward jumps

A scene that I felt was the darkest moment was when Jim and Edward were fighting. Jim was repeatedly hitting Edward in the back with some heavy metal object. When he was going to kill Edward, Kim stepped in and defended him. Once that occurred he backhanded Kim then pushed her down. Edward saw he was mistreating Kim and that filled him with rage. He stabbed Jim in the chest with his hand and and shoved him so far back he flew out the window and fell to his death. That was one scene that I thought really defined dark/spooky. I believe that costumes contribute to creating that dark mood as well in this film. For example, when Edward first came to town his pale face covered with scars and his completely black costume. It gave us a dark evil feeling and when Peg couldn’t get rid of his scars no matter what he tried it made me think he will never change. I also think that color contributes to creating a dark mood because when they first showed the town they put the bright little houses in the background then the huge dark and black castle/mansion it really stood out and gave me a strange feeling about it. Also when Edward and Jim began fighting the lighting suddenly got super dark and when we thought he was going to kill Edward it became the darkest it ever was. Suddenly when Edward killed Jim I felt the scene begin to get brighter like some weight…

In all honesty, my favorite part of the whole film was the performances of Alexis Denison and Amy Acker who respectively play the roles of Beatrice and Benedick. I really liked the scene when Becky convinced Arnie to go down in the water whit her. It showed Gilbert that Arnie isn’t a lost case. Gilbert is has never lost faith in Arnie, but before the scene whit the water Gilbert had lost a bit of his faith in Arnie and I think that showed him on the right path again. I think it is also the scene when he felt something for Becky for the first time.…

    True Blood Vs Twilight

    • 1029 Words
    • 5 Pages

Twilight tells the viewers about the potential plot that could unfold, leaving no suspense, whereas True Blood’s viewers have a visual component, making it easier to connect and empathize with the characters. Twilight’s Bella Swan is a self-conscious, introverted human teenager, while True Blood’s Sookie Stackhouse is an independent, strong-willed human waitress. Both heroines seem to find themselves fascinated with the vampires they each encounter and eventually struggle with their lovers’ “dark side”. When Bella first sees Edward, she is instantly attracted to him but does not outwardly express it and does not initially insert her interest in any way, unlike Sookie who strikes a conversation with Bill as soon as she sees him and later saves his life all within the first episode. Twilight’s Edward Cullen seems to be an egotistical snob that talks a big talk but takes action demonstrating his “vampire” abilities, especially when compared to True Blood’s Bill Compton, who will use his supernatural powers to any extent when it deems necessary to him, even though his being a vampire shames him. Edward only speaks of being a threat to his lover, Bella, while on the other hand, Bill stakes another vampire in the second season to save Sookie’s life (a criminal act worth the death penalty in the vampire world). Both vampires demonstrate their…

First, my favorite scene from the beginning part of the story is when Percy and Annabeth discover the Labyrinth for the first time. On Chapter 3, the scene introduces Percy and Annabeth attacked by giant scorpions which led them to hide under Zeus’s rock, but their luck started to change when they discovered a giant wall like maze. This scene is very suspenseful and mysterious, and it seems to make the reader share the character's feelings. Later, Percy dreams of Luke plotting to use the maze as an underground invasion to the camp. Why I like this scene is because the suspenseful and mysterious background of the character entering the maze which leaves the reader with questions.…

Vampires, how many different stories have you heard about these creatures. Do movies and Television shows differentiate on these creatures? In this essay I will be discuss only two of these vampires, Edward Cullen and Bill Compton. While they are both vampires and share some similarities, most of the story line of these two stories is completely different. From a human drinking vampire who has bottles of True Blood, to a vegan vampire who only consumes animal blood. Then I will discuss the way that both of the characters, as vampires, die. Finally I will bring up some common myths that these two charters have proven incorrect.…

    Braking Dawn

The romantic fantasy film directed by Bill Condon and based on the novel Breaking Dawn by Stephanie Meyer. The first part of a two-part film forms the fourth installment in The Twilight Saga series. In The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 1, Bella (Kristen Stewart) and Edward , plus those they love, must deal with the chain of consequences brought on by a marriage, honeymoon, and the tumultuous birth of a child...which brings an unforeseen and shocking development for Jacob Black. I think the sounds in this film were saved and reused. The sounds did fit the scenes but it did sound like I have heard them before. The film starts out as Bella Swan plans her wedding with the Cullen family. Before the wedding, Edward Cullen tells Bella that he has murdered people in the past. Undaunted by this, Bella and Edward go ahead with the wedding. During the reception following her wedding to Edward, Bella is visited by her friend Jacob Black. When Bella admits that she and Edward plan to consummate their marriage during their honeymoon, Jacob becomes angry but is held back by his pack. He then runs off into the woods, and Edward takes an upset Bella back to the reception. The couple spends their honeymoon on the Cullens' private Brazilian island. Although hesitant, Edward has sex with Bella for the first time. After, Edward realizes that he bruised Bella's arm, back and shoulders during sex and he vows to never be intimate with her again, much to her disappointment; he later gives in to her seductions. Two weeks into their honeymoon, Bella discovers that she is pregnant with a baby growing at an extraordinarily accelerated rate. After consulting with Carlisle, they rush back to Forks. Bella refuses to consider having an abortion, and enlists Rosalie's help to protect her wishes.…

    Bella's Point Of View

    • 461 Words

I find it so interesting how you used the point of view of Bella instead of Edward. Bella’s point of view was very unique. She always seemed to have an inner battle with herself; mostly about her love for Edward. The relationship between Bella and Edward is so intense and contrasting. The quote, “And so the lion fell in love with the lamb” (Meyer 130), perfectly describes their relationship and how they should not be in love, but they can not stay away from each other. The symbolically shows that Bella is Edward’s prey yet they fall in love. The way they contrast so greatly is my favorite concept of Twilight. Bella is humanity, and Edward is symbolic of death, yet Bella fits with Edwards darkness with her pale skin, and Edward balances out Bella’s sedate personality with his friendly one. Bella is light, and Edward is darkness☺. The last line of the novel: “And then the night closed over me” (Meyer 498), makes me think that she is ready to go to the dark side. Even though Edward refuses to change her, Bella is…

The most painful part of the story was when Anna faced Will in his bookstore and confessed her love for him. I was so touched by how she said it, the words she used, and the emotions she showed. Of course, I cannot blame Will for rejecting her because he knew that he’d been hurt before and he does not want to suffer such things again. I was enthralled with the plot of events in this film and was swayed by the love William has for…

The movie has parts that the class really enjoyed. The most thrilling parts for me were: 1) Matilda discovered her power; 2) Matilda was adopted by Miss Honey. I like the first one because I’m always fascinated about supernatural powers and mysticism. My reading preferences are always of a mystical genre, full of witches, spell, and supernatural beings and such. When I was a child, I have a very wide imagination and I will always imagine myself as a warlock casting spells or an extraordinary being that have powers like telekinesis, invisibility, shape shifter and many more. I also like the second one because I believe that every child deserves the best home possible. A child should have a home and a family that will encourage and enhance their mind.…
