Primary emotions are: * Happiness * Sadness * Fear * Anger * Surprise * Disgust
These emotions are inborn, not learnt, as even born blind and deaf people display these emotions.

The James-Lange theory
It explains the connection between our emotion and our body.
Named after the psychologist who created the theory, it states that emotions are physical in nature. It is a physical change that brings about any emotional change.
E.g. If you were nervous, remove all the symptoms of nervousness, and the nervousness would disappear.
Also states that if you do the physical response of the emotion, you may create the emotion. E.g. If you smile, you’ll be happy.
The theory suggests that we can empathise with other’s feelings. For example, if you comfort a depressed person, you may unconsciously behave in a similar way (sitting in a hunched posture and talking with a depressed tone). we pick up an echo of the depression.

Role of Beliefs
Our emotion not only has a physical aspect but also a mental one. Mental thoughts such as beliefs can affect emotion.

Social emotions are: * Ambition * Contempt * Embarrassment * Envy * Gratitude * Guilt * Indignation * Jealousy * Pride * Shame * Sympathy
Social emotions are emotions triggered through our social interaction.

Emotions as an obstacle to knowledge

Emotional colouring: A termed used to refer to the effect emotion can have on our perception causing us to be unaware of some aspects of our life.
e.g. "Love is blind". If we love someone we tend to ignore the faults others may see in them.

However, the thought of not obtaining self-actualization in whatever aspect, is a fear we all experience in some capacity. Due to this emotion, we as mankind are motivated to achieve personal goals on a daily basis, in hopes of reaching the high level of hierarchy to self- actualization.…

Darwin believed that expressions of emotion are products of evolution and compared them in different species. His theory of the evolution of emotion was composed of three main ideas: Expressions of emotion evolve from behaviors that indicate what an animal is likely to do next. If the signals provided by such behaviors benefit the animal that displays them, they will evolve in ways that enhance their communicative function, and their original function may be lost. Opposite messages are often signaled by opposite movements and postures, an idea called the principle of antithesis.…

Ekmannn’s study suggests that cognitive factors affect our emotions after the biological factors do. The study’s aim was to find a relationship between the physical state and emotions. The participants were given different emotions, which they had to represent with their facial expressions and hold them for about 10 seconds. The participants physiological systems were measured after that and the results were that participants that picked different emotions had different responses in their physiological system. The participants that picked emotions such as anger had for example a higher increase of temperature in their bodies than the participants that did not have anger and picked an emotion such as sadness. Therefore what was found from this experiment was that emotions can be measured by the changes in their physiological system.…

Emotions, at times I can not help feel that they can be caused by others. On the surface, if you witness a person’s reaction to a message received from another person, depending on the content of the message it can incite feelings of happiness or sadness causing one to believe what they just witnessed was a form of cause and affect. However, I believe this is not true because ones reaction to a message may be influenced by the content of it, but the emotions displayed because of the message comes from ones own personal self Emotions are labels we use to describe our feelings and the physiological, non-verbal, cognitive and verbal expression components of emotions help solidify the approach that we cause our own feelings by interpreting an event in one way or another (J. Whitton, personal communications, March 24, 2010).…
