Teaching students with disability
Teaching is not an exact science, where one teaching strategy fits all. Having a lesson planned that is carefully prepared may encourage some students to improve their grades, craft an incredible story, and attend college. That same lesson may leave other students discouraged and confused. Effective teaching requires creativity and flexibility. Teaching techniques and strategies must be adjusted and monitored frequently by both general educators and special educators. Only a portion of the lesson plan might need to be reconstructed. Teachers relay upon their various strategies and techniques in order to meet the requirements and needs of the diverse learners. “They also use evidence-based practices shown through research to improve student learning (Mulligan , Sept 2011).”

Educating students with disability is of the highest priority for the National Dissemination Center for Children with Disabilities (Mulligan , Sept 2011). Who frequently filter the results of research and examination in order for general and special educators to connect the “evidence based practices” regarding educating students with disabilities (Mulligan , Sept 2011).

Modifications and Accommodations are a vital part of planning and preparing educational plan for students. Many students with a disability may just require small changes in the manner in which they are tested and taught. Then they may be able to take part successfully within regular class room setting. Accommodations entail various types of support system and techniques. Accommodations assist student with disabilities to work around their limitations associated with their disability. For example a student who uses wheelchairs may need elevator or ramp to move independently inside the school. A student who is blind may use books-on-tape or Braille textbooks. And students who is hearing impaired will need a sign language interpreter.

    One passion we as educators all share is the love for our students. Those of us who chose the path of working with special education students especially know that genuine place we have in our hearts for teaching students disabilities with learning disabilities. Over the last few decades, more awareness about these disabilities has florist throughout our nation. Many advocates of their time have fought to educate these students in order to help them overcome their struggle. Over time we see the long protect the rights of the students and provide them with the restrictive environment settings in order to provide an equal but adequate education. Despite the fact services are an essential part of protecting a student with special needs rights; it cannot be at the cost of their education either. If the student is able to complete the work at the same annual yearly progress as the general education population, proper services whether it be assistive technology or a personal aide, must be provided to the student. The services not only help students’ with special needs successfully graduate school but it provides them a promising future. Graduating with the tools and knowledge needed to survive on their own, students are now becoming functioning members of our society. As the candidate for my interview, I chose Dr.Gerard Crisinino, special education director of Jersey City Pubic School. He has instilled within him that compassion for working with these children and dedicated the last 30 years of his life to providing services for those students in need.     Special education teachers work with many students that have difficulties with attention, memory and recognition. There are also developmental skills that can affect a student’s ability to process information. These skills can relate to visual-perceptual skills, motor skills and language skills.
