Swot for Dunkin Donuts Essay Example
the TOWS analysis. the first threat facing DD is the presence of many competitors, like starbucks, mcdonalds and krispy kreme. They can potentially cause a large reduction in DD's market share in coffee and baked foods. Another threat is that there are low barriers of entry into the coffee and donut industry, which actually gives rise to the threat above - presence of many competitors. The price of raw ingredients are also increasing, like soybean. It is a threat as DD is now using a reformulated cooking oil, made from soybean, for its donuts to eliminate trans fats. The increase in raw material prices may result in an increase in DD's operating cost. There is also an increasing concern of health issues globally as people are becoming more aware. However this is not a big threat to DD as they've removed trans fats from their donuts, and in essence, donuts have been accepted to be popular comfort food.

Next we have the opportunities. Coffee consumption is on the increase in Asia, especially in countries with rising disposable incomes such as China. There is also a donut craze in many asian countries including Singapore, Taiwan and Malaysia. With the rise of globalisation, the speed of the flow of information quickens, so everything is moving at a faster pace. This is an opportunity for DD as it has positioned itself as a quick stopover to get your beverage or snack fix. There is also a growing acceptance of western influences in countries from the younger generation, where in Taiwan, youngsters would queue in line for hours for donuts. The possibility of a US recession is also an opportunity, because it seems that Americans like to drown their economic woes in rich sugary food, especially if that food is cheap. What else can you share with 12 people that costs under six bucks?

As for the weaknesses, consumer reviews have revealed that quality of food in certain franchises are not as good as others, hence there is inconsistent quality of Dunkin's Donuts. DD may

The Skittles commercial entitled “Romance” begins with a zoomed-in camera angle of a teenage boy pouring a bag of skittles into his hands. At this point it is visible that the boy is wearing a blue hoodie accompanied by a blue, gray, and white shirt. The skittle bag itself is exaggerated in color and works to draw the attention of the viewer to the bag as its brilliant red gleams comparatively to the dull background of the boy's shirt. As the skittles are poured into the hands of the boy, the sound of the skittles rustling down and out of the bag is also audible compared to the relative silence that surrounds it.…

It is a cool, crisp fall morning in October. It is early, as my coach always wants to arrive at our cross country meets first. He seems to think there's a direct link to when you get to the meet and where your team places. In my opinion, the only direct link is between the earlier we have to get up and the size of the coffee we each get at Dunkin Donuts. My teammates, excited about the day ahead of them, feverishly exchange “Secret buddy” gifts, and pass around the purple war paint, ready to face the day ahead.…

Their competitors are their largest weakness. Dunkin’ Donuts doesn’t spend much on their advertising and marketing as their competition does. The increasing cost of coffee beans and raw materials is also a weakness as their product pricing is already considered expensive (Altmann, 2007). Current trends pose as another weakness for them. As the trend for healthy living continues it’s important for them to stay current and introduce new products to meet those new consumers’ needs and wants (Altmann, 2007). Another weakness Dunkin Donuts faces are the legal and regulatory forces and trends that harbor setbacks for the company. Dunkin donuts stores are franchised out and it’s up to each individual stores franchisee owner to make sure they follow all of the rules, regulations and requirements set for the store. The most common issue among franchises is related to failed payments. Such as the case in Richmond, Virginia in 2013 when 7 stores were temporarily closed because they failed to pay for franchise and advertising fees (Blackwell,…
