1. What is the difference between organization-centered and individual-centered career planning? Why should HR departments facilitate individual-centered career planning if these individuals might not stay with the organization for their entire career? Organization-centered career planning focuses on jobs and on identifying career paths that provide for the logical progression of people between jobs in the organizations; while individual-centered career planning focuses on individuals’ careers rather than in organizational needs. If the HR department facilitates individual-centered career planning the employee might just see that a career with that organization could be promising because the organization is concerned about the employee. 2. What are the main career challenges for women? What can organizations do to make better use of its female talents? The main career challenges for women are the facts that women give birth to children and are usually the main care givers for those children. Another example is the fact that women fail to progress into top and senior management positions. An organization can make better use of its female talents by offering child-care assistance, flexible work policies, and a general willingness to be accommodating. 3. Describe the roles of performance appraisal and performance management. What is the role of performance management and appraisal in administrative decision making? The roles of performance appraisal and performance management are to set and clearly communicate performance standards and expectations, to observe and provide feedback, and to conduct appraisals which enable an organization to achieve the best results through managing employee performance.
