Abstract.

In recent years, LED message displays have become a popular and creative way to display messages to any audience. In many cases animations are added to the message being displayed including messages that scroll across the display and messages that flash or change color. The purpose of an LED message display is to display short messages to an audience in a way that is quick, easily comprehended, and somewhat entertaining, while having a simple user interface that enables the display to be used with little or no instruction. The objective of this project is to develop, design, fabricate and test a scrolling single color LED message display. This report will provide a detailed description of the development and design process, testing and results as well as a conclusion of the overall system level results of the project. Recommendations, a budget, and bill of materials for use in possible future revisions of the project will also be provided.

The project resulted in a successfully working scrolling LED display consisting of an Arduino Uno Microcontroller, a 48x6 array of LEDs, and a simple 3 button user interface for message entry. The final product met most of the requirements that were established for the project and details of how this was accomplished as well as why some of the requirements were not met are disused throughout this report in detail.
