Final Paper For nine weeks this course had me analyzing my dietary and exercise habits. I researched my eating habits at the USDA Food Pyramid Guide and was provided with recommendations on what and how much I should be eating. This information combined with recommended exercises and information I learned in this class has resulted in my creating a lifetime personalized nutrition, diet, and exercise plan. First and foremost a little introspection is required, what about my current lifestyle and eating habits are detrimental to my health. Since this course has started I have already begun to address my nutritional habits, I have cut back on red meats and eat more fish and chicken. I still enjoy a large variety of fresh seasonal vegetables; I do not eat canned vegetables. I need to drink more milk, although I do meet some of my dairy needs from cheese products. I try and balance the rest of my diet with recommended amounts of whole grains and fruits. I have completely removed hot dogs from my diet; it was a source of sodium and high in cholesterol which I have enough medical issues with. Next I need to address exercise, I do not exercise enough currently. I do get outdoors and enjoy activities such as fishing and hiking; unfortunately I drive to the fishing spots and do not hike as much as I did when I was younger. This amount of physical activity does nothing to increase my heart rate or cardiovascular benefits. I currently have no high impact exercises such as jogging, or bicycling. The goals I have set for myself should be easy to meet. First, I am going to eat less red meat in my diet. Part of that goal is to replace some of the red meat I would normally add to my diet with nuts and fish. I live in an area where fresh salmon and tuna are plentiful and affordable. I also have walnut and hazelnut trees close by, so adding these items to my diet should be simple. Another nutritional

Throughout the course of the last nine weeks, my eyes have been opened to an entirely new world full of nutritional and exercising information. It is rough being a thirty-three year old husband and father, with an eye on trying to remain on this planet for as long as humanly possible. As parents, we all have goals we want to achieve. The usual suspects include seeing your children graduate high school and then college, walking your daughter down the aisle of her wedding, and being able to retire and continue to live a healthy and happy life. What I have come to realize through this nutritional and exercising information is that in order to accomplish this goal, there are certain aspects of my life that I need to change. I am not a particularly healthy eater. I do not exercise regularly. I mostly do what I can with the time I have available. I suspect this problem plagues many men across this country and around the world. In my state, the obesity rate is close to 30% and it continues to trend upward (Centers for Disease Control, 2011). Without a drastic change in lifestyle, I am simply adding to the statistics. The knowledge I have gained in this course has led me to believe that this is simply unacceptable. Something has to change, and I have a plan to make that happen.…

    1) I did list down what I had for the last 24 hours and I found I had something from each of the five major food groups which are correct per MyPlate.com. I exceeded the number of servings for vegetables because I take romaine lettuce and add a little bit of seasoning (Mrs. Dash) to it and eat it like I would eat chips. “There 's a lot on MyPlate, but there shouldn 't be” (Amarante, June 05, 2011, expression 1). My essay will cover the recorded nutrient report from the foods that a typical college student had eaten during in the past three days. The web-based nutrient report that the college student used to record his meals was from MyPlate. “MyPlate is the current nutrition guide published by the United States Department of Agriculture, depicting a place setting with a plate and glass divided into five food groups.[1] It replaced the USDA 's MyPyramid guide on June 2, 2011, ending 19 years of USDA food pyramid diagrams.[2] MyPlate will be displayed on food packaging and used in nutrition education in the United States”("MyPlate," 2011, p. 1). Metabolic Diet Essay

One of the challenges with most diets that are based on decreasing the total number of calories being consumed is sustaining a high metabolism. Our metabolism is responsible for burning through calories, but when the caloric content of our food is reduced, our bodies shift gears and decrease their calorie consumption. This results in that feeling of sluggishness and tiredness that is common among most dieters, meaning we become less efficient at burning calories. What a metabolic diet does is raise the metabolism to speed up the burning of calories, which equates to a faster weight loss rate. This method of dieting is much more effective than what essentially amounts to starving yourself. But if you are dieting to lose weight, how can you avoid…
