Rules in Makabayan Contest Proper 1. Questions will be read twice by the Quizmaster; once in English and once in Filipino. 2. After the second (2nd) reading, the Quizmaster shall say “go” --- only then will the contestants be allowed to write their answer. Automatically, the ten (10) second time - limit will begin with the word “go” by the Quizmaster.

Rules in Mathematics Contest Proper 3. Questions will be read twice in English by the Quizmaster. Contestants may start computing on the second (2nd) reading of the question. 4. After the second (2nd) reading, the Quizmaster shall say “go”. Automatically, the twenty (20) second time - limit will begin with the word “go” by the Quizmaster. 5. Contestants must encircle their final answer.

Rules in Science & Technology Contest Proper 6. Questions will be read twice in English by the Quizmaster. 7. After the second (2nd) reading, the Quizmaster shall say “go”. Automatically, the ten (10) second time - limit will begin with the word “go” by the Quizmaster. 8. Should the question require computation, contestants may start writing down notes on the second (2nd) time the question is read. After the second (2nd) reading, the Quizmaster shall say “go” and the time - limit will be extended to twenty (20) seconds. Contestants must then encircle their final answer.

Rules in General information & International Affairs Contest Proper 9. Questions will be read twice in English by the Quizmaster. 10. After the second (2nd) reading, the Quizmaster shall say “go”. Automatically, the ten (10) second time - limit will begin with the word “go” by the Quizmaster.

General Rules for Contest Proper in all Subject Categories 11. All contestants will answer the same set of questions in writing. Before a question is read, the contestants must raise their Uni markers. 12. After the time limit and the buzzer sounds, the contestants must stop writing and raise their answerboards. 13. The Quizmaster/ proctor shall read and verify the contestants’ answer. 14. There are four (4) rounds in each competition namely: Easy, Average, Difficult and Clincher. The Clincher round takes place only if there is a tie. 15. In the Easy Round, two (2) questions will be asked; in the Average Round, three (3) questions; in the Difficult Round, five (5) questions, and in the Clincher Round, as many questions as needed. 16. Points are assigned for each question answered correctly: • Easy question 1 point • Average question 2 points • Difficult question 3 points

17. After the fifth (5th) question in the Difficult Round, the total number of points of each contestant is tabulated. 18. The contestant who gets the highest number of points is automatically declared the Champion; and the second (2nd) highest --- the Runner – up. 19. Should there be a tie among the contestants getting the highest score or the second (2nd) highest score, the contest continues to the Clincher Round to determine the Champion or the Runner – up as the case may be. 20. The total number of points of the tied contestants will revert back to zero (0). 21. In the Clincher Round, as many questions will be asked. The contestant who gives the correct answer is declared the Winner. 22. Should both contestants remain tied, more questions will be asked to break the tie and so on until a Winner is declared. 23. In case the Champion is unable to compete in the next contest level (District, Division, Regional or National), the duly certified Runner – up will take the place of the Champion.

General Rules in case of a Protest for all Subject Categories 24. The duly registered teacher – coach of the contestant is the only person authorized to make a protest. 25. All protest should be referred to the Board of Judges/ Quizmaster immediately before the Quizmaster reads the next question. Ergo, protests on scores must be brought up with the Board of Judges/ Quizmaster immediately after the tally of scores, before a champion or runner-up is declared. 26. Protests on questions/ answers must be backed up with a proof of reference. 27. Any and all personnel related by affinity or consanguinity up to the third (3rd) degree to any contestant or teacher – coach is disqualified in the committees involved in the planning and formulation of questions in the Quiz Bee contests nor can they act as coach of any contestant.

General Rules for the Board of Judges 28. The Board of Judges must uphold all Quiz Bee Rules & Regulations first and foremost. At no time can a juror or jurors change the rules and regulations of the National Quiz Bee. 29. The Board of Judges must not entertain any and all protest after the next question is read or after the announcement of winners. 30. No protest on questions/ answers will be entertained by the Board of Judges without proof of reference on hand. 31. Proof of reference must be 5 years or less from its printing date. Accepted references are textbooks, encyclopedia, dictionaries, reviewers and/or online material by credible authors and resource persons. Photocopied or unpublished materials will not be accepted as reference as per copyright law. 32. A protest is allotted a 5 – minute time limit. Time starts from the time the protest has been made with the Board of Judges. The Board of Judges must make a final decision on or before the time limit. The final decision must be unanimous among the Board of Judges. 33. In case of a deadlock decision, the Board of Judges can nullify a question and replace it with another question. This decision can only be made on extreme cases. 34. The Board of Judges’ decision shall be final in all protested questions or scores.

House Rules of the Quiz Bee Foundation 35. Past National, ASEAN and World Quiz Bee Champion Students are no longer qualified to join in future Quiz Bee competitions to give others a chance to aspire for the top honors. 36. All National, ASEAN and World Quiz Bee Champion Students are automatically barred to join any similar contest for a period of one (1) year from their Quiz Bee Championship. 37. The term “Quiz Bee” and its logo is a duly registered trademark protected by the Intellectual Property Office. 38. The Quiz Bee name and logo can only be used for the sole purpose of multi – level eliminations for the Quiz Bee contests (School Level Quiz Bee, District Level Quiz Bee, Division Level Quiz Bee, Regional Level Quiz Bee and National Quiz Bee Grand Finals) in consonance with the Quiz Bee Foundation. 39. Legal action shall be taken against any organization or person utilizing the “Quiz Bee” name and/or logo without the formal approval of the Quiz Bee Foundation. 40. Any violation of the Quiz Bee House Rules and aforementioned rules shall result in forfeiture of titles, prizes and privileges of any winning contestant, teacher – coach and school concerned.
