Educating Rita
‘I’m coming in, aren’t I?’ this dialogue symbolises Rita struggle entering into the world of education and academic.
‘Great thing about booze makes one believe under all the talk one is actually saying something’. This dialogue conveys Franks struggle with alcoholism which leaves hi, with a low self-esteem. ‘might go to France, might go to my mother’s, might even have a baby’. This Dialogue shows that Rita is finally taking control of her life.
‘Denny found out I was on the pill again and burnt all my books’ Dialogue represents Denny doesn’t like Rita getting an education he thinks it’s changing her, he just wants her to have a kid and not go into the world and experience new things, he doesn’t want Rita to change.

Mean Girls
Sound of tribal drumming at the beginning of the movie to signify her African background. Conveys that Kady was moving into the world, she went from a home schooled girl in Africa to a proper high school in America.
‘I felt like a hog surrounded by lions’ this metaphor in the dialogue shows Kady comparing a bunch of teenage girls to a hog surrounded by lions in a watering hole. She was comparing her past to the future signifying how far she has comes and the similarities between two different worlds.
Costuming at the Halloween party. Show in the eye level shot is Kady wearing a hideous Godzilla bride costuming them it is compared to Regina, Gretchen and Karen wearing skimpy tight pussy cat outfits. For kady to go into the world she has to fit into the high school world but also become an individual.

The Drover’s Wife
‘Thud.. Thud.. Thud.. Thud’. Lawson used Onomatopoeia to describe alligator swinging the snake around in his mouth dramatically, creating the ‘thud’ sound.
‘Slabs gleam like polish silver’. The simile Lawson uses to conveys the shiny bright flash of silver through the cracks of the slabs.
‘An evil pair of bead like eyes glisten at one of these holes’. Lawson uses the technique of symbolism to convey the dangers of the busy.
In A Dry Season
‘Draw a wire fence, few ragged gums and a few scattered sheep’. Lawson created a demand through commentary within the dialogue towards the audience addressing them directly.
‘Ragged’ and ‘Scattered’. Descriptive adjectives used to shape the images and describe them precise.
‘Death was about the only cheerful thing in the bush’. Lawson used Irony to compare death to happiness. He added in his own opinion also known as an authorial comment which was showing his negativity towards the bush.

Colours and Shades. The colours used in this artwork were greys, blues, blacks, whites which are all cool colours which signified that it was night time and the town was asleep.
Brushstrokes. The brushstrokes were heavy, thick and repetitive creating a swish across the background, creating an illustration of movement in the sky.
Highlighting. No bright colours were used around the town, Vincent van Gough illuminated the village giving readers the impression that everyone was asleep.

Mental Cases
‘Baring teeth that leer like skulls teeth wicked’. This simile suggests that the mental cases were rocking alive but looking like corpses on the battlefield.
‘Drooping tongues from jaws that slob their relish’. The image of soldiers in an almost vegative state is shown through an ironic image.
Repetition of ‘blood’ conveys imagery and helps contribute images of horror.

Disabled
‘ Wheeled chair’. This technique symbolism conveys the loss of experiences, barrier which is used to illustrate a reduced lifestyle.
‘Legless, sewn short at elbow’. Owen uses Imagery to create a vivid shocking image of a disabled person.
‘Ghastly suit of grey’. This conveys the use of alliteration with repetition harsh ‘g’ sounds.

Anthem For Doomed Youth
‘What passing bells for these who die as cattle?’ This simile shocks the reader by comparing the loss of human life to the slaughter of cattle.
‘Stuttering riffles rapid rattle’. Alliteration is conveyed through the repeated sound of ‘r’ in the readers mind illustrating the sound of guns firing.
‘Monstrous anger of the guns’. Owen use personification to describe the guns as angry. Creates a sound in the readers mind bringing them to life, because guns can’t be angry.
