Spir•it•u•al. Adjective. Of, relating to, or affecting the human spirit or soul as opposed to material or physical things. Yoga is a mind and body practice with historical origins in ancient Indian thoughts. Like other meditative movements that are used for health purposes, various styles of yoga typically combine physical postures, breathing techniques, and meditation or relaxation. Yoga is mainly used for syncing the body and mind. Yoga started back 3,000 years ago in India. Although yoga includes physical exercise, it also works with training ones mind, body, breathing, connecting with spirituality. A person who goes through yoga foes through the specific positions while trying to control their breathing. The exact origins of yoga are uncertain. Yoga has originated from the east. The earliest evidence of yoga has come up on ancient Shamanism. Things like existing text for example, Rig-Veda, Rig-Vedd is composition of hymns. In Hinduism, Buddhism, and Jainism the word yoga means “spiritual discipline.” People often associate yoga with the postures and stances that make up the physical activity of the exercise, but after further inspection it becomes clear there’s none than that. I wasn’t until the sixth century B.C that the poses and meditation became a critical element. “The traditional pose of yoga however, always been to bring about a profound transformation in the person through the transcendence of the ego.” (Feuerstein 3 www.)
Various forms of yoga have become popular in United States and Europe. Transcendental Meditation is a easier version of Hinduism's yoga. Bhakti-yoga involves all actions and thoughts to a chosen god. Hatha-yoga, which stresses difficult body posture and breathing technique. Vinyasa/power yoga: Similar to Ashtanga yoga these are also active forms of yoga that improve strength, flexibility, and stamina. This is one of the most popular yoga’s that are used.
