One morning I helped one of my resident (Mrs X) have a wash and get dressed in her bedroom.
From handover and reading the care plan I was aware that Mrs X only needed help with washing her back and lower half and placing equipment and clothes within reach as she is unable to walk independently. I also checked this with Mrs X to see if she has any preferences on the assistance that she needed.
First I set out the items she needed and made sure she were safely with reach. This included allowing her to make her own choice of toiletries and clothes.
I asked her to call for assistance when she was ready for this help. This would allow her privacy and not to feel rushed. When I left I made sure I shut the door to maintain her dignity and washed my hands.
When she called I went immediately to assist her complete her washing and dressing. Where possible I allowed her to do as much as possible for her and explained what I was doing.
While I was assisting with washing here lower half I noted that the back of her heels appeared to show red marking. I asked her if this was painful at all and explained that I would report this so the Nurse in charge would carry out a pressure area care assessment. As a result of this a pressure relieving mattress was placed on her bed to reduce the risk of pressure sores.
Later in the morning I made a written record in the communication book that stated the Mrs X had a full wash this morning and that I had reported that her heels were

In our convocation as we were taking the service user upstairs on the stair lift. I started whistling a song to one of the sound of music songs and she started to whistle along. She then smiled at the end of the song . As she smiled I noticed most of her teeth were cracked and chipped due to her chewing her medication. I asked her “do your teeth not hurt?” “They look like they hurt “ i said and i patted her on the knee. When we reached the top of the stairs i asked her to stand. She always get distracted with the mirror at the top of the stairs when we normally ask her to stand. But this time she was smiling and looking at her teeth pulling her lips back and looking at her teeth. She must of understood what I was taking about and wanted to have a look at for herself.…

We started our day in the hospital lobby promptly at 0630, the professor started off by explaining where on the unit each of us would be, as she usually does. I was placed in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) along with one other student. This week was different than previously, there were more infants and nurses and also Intermediate Care Unit (IMCU) was in a different room. Because NICU was full with nurses and infants. I started off in IMCU, where I met this wonderful nurse who I connected with and stayed the whole day talking to her, when I wasn’t checking on the other student. The nurse allowed me to shadow her with the three infants she was assigned to. At each station the…

    My Clinical Experience

During my first day of clinical, I encountered an issue that I believe is very significant. As a student nurse, our duty for this day was to follow our health care aide around the ward and assist in completing resident care. The resident required assistance in many of her daily tasks. The health care aide asked if I would perform one of those and do perineal care for her. I turned down her offer because I did not feel comfortable with my skill level. The resident had a bowel movement during the night. There was a significant odour in the room that overwhelmed me. I really wanted to leave the room because it was so unpleasant, but I stayed in the room so that the resident would not be embarrassed. This feeling of embarrassment, I assume, was already present but I decided to continue with helping clean up and change her linens. The issue that seemed significant, in this experience, was my feelings pertaining to intimate care. ‘One of the reasons why there is so little training in this area could be because the act of providing intimate care for others can be considered as “dirty work” and is undervalued both within services and by the wider society’ (Clark, 2006) In society, going to the bathroom is seen as a very private matter and is not done in public. During this experience, this was going against my beliefs of our social norm and understanding this, I went with my values of caring and supporting individuals in need by staying in the room.…

In my opinion, I think this poem consists of more than one direct meaning, which is God being dead, and justice being gone. This poem reveals the sins committed on earth by human beings are bad, and how things would change when more people become corrupt and take advantage over one another. As a narrative poem, this poem describes how Satan will dominate the world when the end of the world arrives. The enjambment in the poem is used to convey that the end of the world is going to come not as a gradual event, but as one huge connected climax. This poem literally gives out a warning sign, and reveals what a horrific ending we would have if people decide to be selfish, greedy, and act inhumanely. The poem I chose to share at the poetry café is called, “God Lay Dead In Heaven” by Stephen Crane. Stephen Crane is an American novelist, short story writer, poet, and journalist. He is recognized by modern critics as one of the most innovative writers of his generation. Crane began writing at the age of four and had published several articles by the age of 16. Stephen Crane was born on November 1, 1971, and died on June 5, 1900; he had passed away at a very young age after accomplishing great works in literature. Having little interest in university studies, he left school in 1891 to work as a reporter and writer. When Crane began to write poetry seriously, he once stated that his overall poetic aim was "to give my ideas of life as a whole, so far as I know it". The poetic style used in both of his books of poetry, The Black Riders and Other Lines and War is Kind, was unconventional for the time in that it was written in free verse without rhyme, meter, or even titles for individual works. However the poem I have chosen was written by the proficient poet, in 1895.…
