Poverty is a complex world situation, poverty is a complex issue with several causes and manifestations. Although generally focuses on deprivation or satisfaction of basic needs (Food, utilities, sanitation, education, capital, etc.) people who experience poverty are also involved in other problems such as impotence to influence decisions affecting their own destiny or vulnerability to different economic, social, culture and environment. We could notice that poverty has been reflected from historical times and due to historical reasons, for example, colonialism, slavery, war and conquest.
According to this, poverty remains a daily reality of people looking to survive at least with a minimum wage. Unfortunate situations like hunger and malnutrition affect many people whose food is not enough to satisfy their daily energy needs. For example, in young children, lack of food can be dangerous because it retards their physical and mental development and threatens their normal development and survival. We can see many infantile population suffering from malnutrition, measles, diarrhea, pneumonia, etc. and despite it be curable are reasons of death. In the case of adults, the hunger deprives to have the skill and strength to carry out productive work.
But, why people suffer of these minimum basic needs? On December 10, 1948, the General Assembly of the United Nations adopted and proclaimed the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Article 25 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights states that 'Everyone has the right to a standard of living adequate for the health and well-being of himself. This means that the United Nations consider certain minimum human rights that today are not guaranteed by the governments. Then, we find another fact: Poverty and conflict between countries are often closely linked. In many countries there are huge relation in access to power and control of resources.
In 2000: A Better World For All, the World Bank, United Nations (UN), International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) state that it is possible to cut poverty rates in half by 2015 if countries follow policies that both reduce social and gender inequalities and, most importantly, create income-earning opportunities for the poor. It is important that firstly countries should 'invest early and ambitiously in basic education and health while fostering gender equality (1).
Proverty is not just about financial aid, only this will not eradicate or reduce poverty. Poverty as a social problem calls for a social solution. That solution is the clear, conscious and deliberate removal of the factors of poverty. Scarce education is mostly found in third world countries because the government can’t afford good public education mainly in rural areas. Also people focus more on making a minimal living than on education. One more reason is because there aren’t enough opportunities for a job. Without education you can not have a job and without a job you can’t make money so this results in poverty. The key is that we do not ignore those living in poverty but help, in whatever way we believe is best. We are obliged to try our hardest to make circumstances better for them. Extreme global poverty is a problem that affects a large percentage of the world’s population and will continue to spread until serious action is taken against it by the wealthier nations. However, the amount of obligation, if any, that countries feel they have to deal with such a problem is a main source of controversy and one of the reasons why poverty is taking so long to be reduced.
Definitely, a poor leadership, bad governance, under-employment, lack of skills, absenteeism, lack of capital, and others contribute to the perpetuation of poverty, and their eradication is necessary for the removal of poverty.
Successful plans to fight poverty require country ownership and broad based support from the public in order to succeed (2).
