The reflective portfolio is an continuous assignment in NUR1001. It required us to complete the task every 2 weeks that relates to the material being taught. I personally had found this challenging but rewarding because it allows us to provide the process of our study development skills and be able to reflect on our down knowledge overtime, presenting evidence of what we learned each week. A portfolio contains materials such as documents and proof of experiences for examples, activities participation in our lecture or tutorials to illustrate path of the nurses. Documents also provide the background skills and expertise monitoring our own development and assess our progressing in achieving our tasks. Overall, it is my aim to show how each has shaped my learning by contributing the progressing of my own studies.…

Sociological knowledge becomes part of society.Procrastination and prioritizing is what will greatly affect my academic career future. I can only ensure my academic success by letting go of some of my previous commitments. My family has always been “Priority #1”. I would call myself and committed, dedicated and hard working employee of the Smith family. My job came with many intrinsic rewards such as; travel and financial gains. I was on-call day and night, childcare, teaching, organizing moves and setting up small businesses to name a few. It took great commitment to organization to set up menus, chore charts and travel/escort planning. For 4 years I lived out of my car traveling as an escort and Smith Family Representative. In, 2010 my job began to phase out, kids growing up, and I knew unemployment was inevitable. I began to focus on my Real self and my ideal self. Who am I? And what are the worth of my personal skills? Without a degree no job was going to pay me what I currently earn with the Smith family. I discovered that I was my job and I had to find me! I procrastinated for many years dealing with me. I called myself a martyr but am I really a masochist?…

Media semiotics in its most basic form originates from Greek philosophers where the idea of a ‘sign’ meant that it is something that represents something to someone in some way. More recently semiotics finds their origin from structuralism. Structuralism can be said that it is the study or description of details and their different components regardless of how large or small. In media structuralism describes and explains how text and each component of that text functions within the context and in relation with the rest of the components of the text. The signifier and signified are two of the three components of what is known as a sign, this is according to de Saussure. The signifier is a concrete sign that can be observed or touched such as a peace sign, a heart sign, a television image. The signifier is not the actual object represented but it stands in the place of the object or idea the sign refers to.
