Persuasive Letter Essay Example
Dear Dr. Jones, As a student, I am constantly running frantically all over the place. Go to school, go to practice, go to driver’s education, go home, do homework, go to bed, and repeat. These strenuous schedules currently bombard our everyday lives, leaving us no wiggle room and very few breaks. Ever since kindergarten our generation has had six hour school days. We have all built our lives around school, always remembering that school comes first. Changing this structured schedule that has been planted in our brains since childhood might very well have a spiral of negative effects.
I have recently been informed of your proposal to add an extra hour to our school day, and though I am sure you have the right intentions, I do not think that this will benefit us as students. A survey conducted at our school verified that 98% of the student body here at North Kitsap High School would not like having an extra school hour, and the students weren’t the only ones that didn’t think it would be a good idea. Four out of every five teachers thought that with the lengthening of our day, more bad would come than good. One big issue with this change is that there will be less time for sports and after school activities. As it is, some of the sports, such as girls’ basketball, don’t end until the shockingly late time of 7:00. With an extra hour on the day it wouldn’t get out until 8:00, and some people have personal affairs to attend to after sports. For example, after I get done with gymnastics practice, I have to sit at driver’s education for two hours, then come home and do homework and chores before I go to bed. With all these stress inducing activities going on, a lot of us wouldn’t get to sleep until very late at night. This would affect our stress level and our mental state in class, greatly diminishing our grades. Why not just cancel sports you ask? Studies have shown that sports and other after school activities play a big role in the lives of students. Sports teach

Studies have shown that students on the later start time “ had better grades than students that started with a 7:15 a.m. start time”(Erde) This right here seals the deal and should automatically prove that we need to have these times in place and we need them quick for the betterment of our school and our future. Therefor I don’t think our school board should add time to each school day. I think we should keep our schedule starting at 7:30 and ending at 2:30. That way we can get home do chores, play and go to any afterschool activities. If we changed our school hours that would interfere with parents/guardians work schedules. Now with the schedules our school has we don’t get to restless with the teachers or other…

The audience I would try to reach in regards to an alternate version of my persuasive essay would be the governments of the world that have taken advantage of America’s passivity in the world, such as China and Iran. By having them as my audience, it would send a message that America is not going to be a footstool anymore, and that whomever tries to step on or over will be dealt with accordingly. By seeing my work, maybe it would prevent them from taking specific courses of action because they too believe Donald Trump will bring peace through strength. While it could have the opposite effect on the intended audience in its persuasiveness, it would nonetheless get them out of their comfort zone and possibly rattled. I just hope that it does not go in the opposite direction intended, and create a situation where a country bans my alternate version, saber rattles America itself, or boycotts American products or people. They would find my work in multiple mediums, from underground newspapers, internet ads, and at film festivals.…

“42 states reported that most (75%-100%) public schools started before 8:30 a.m” (“Schools Start Too Early”). Most schools start before 8:30. A decent amount of schools start around 7:20. Schools start early in the day and release later in the afternoon. This has become routine, but studies show that students who start early in the day perform worse in school compared to those who start later in the day. Schools should implement a later start time for higher schoolers since high schoolers would get around the recommended amount of sleep, preventing sleeping in school and high schoolers academics and safety will increase, since they will get enough sleep to study before school and prevent drowsiness.…
