Nursing, as a profession, makes up the biggest portion of our nation’s health care. When taking care of patients, nurses have a direct impact on the care of the patient. The closeness to patients and having a direct effect on patient outcomes, gives nurses the ability to effect the healthcare system. Nurses will come in contact with a diverse range of patients and will need to act as leaders by delivering safe patient care. Nurses need to be able to succeed in this profession. (The…
When considering the impact on nursing due to the report on The Future of Nursing (IOM report, 2010), the need for increased nursing education becomes even more relevant. The nursing profession constitutes the largest segment of the medical field. Thus, nursing will undoubtedly have a vital role in the development of the medical field. However, according to the IOM report, “A number of barriers prevent nurses from being able to respond effectively to rapidly changing healthcare setting and the evolving health care system” (IOM report, 2010).…

Nursing education has progressed throughout history from one of uneducated lay persons to the current standards we know today. As the career has progressed it has become apparent that there is a need for a skilled labor forced trained to deal with the sick and dying, “the provision of nursing care by American women…demonstrated the effectiveness of skilled nursing on improving outcomes for sick and injured soldiers” (Creasia & Friberg, 2011, p. 4). However, as the career progresses so does the need for more specialized training amongst nurses to help them deal with the changing atmosphere of patient care. The future of nursing is trending towards care that involves not only treating the signs and symptoms, but enhancing the patient’s health through prevention and education. In order to meet these new demands the nurse of today needs to be skilled to handle these changes.…

I cannot say becoming a Registered Nurse has been my dream career or something I have put a lot of thought into. Nevertheless, I can say that it is a career that has caught my interest faster than any other career I’ve considered. I have found myself indecisive about my career for a long time, but this career asks for qualities that I’ve embraced my whole life. This career requires a variety of things prior to becoming one, but there are many opportunities that come with it. A Registered Nurse plays a major role in the healthcare team, but also in their patient’s life.…

When I was eleven years old I was diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder. I had a hard time coping with the changes in my mood. Part of my healing process consisted of trying many different medications, therapies, and developing the desire to heal. During this time, friends I had for many years pushed me away, and although I felt alone and confused at times, I came out thriving. Bipolar Disorder is a mood disorder thought to be caused by chemical imbalances in the brain that can result in extreme swings in mood—from manic highs to depressive lows. To be diagnosed with bipolar disorder, you must have experienced a high period (mania). Bipolar mania is described as an “extreme high,” or feeling unusually great. Most people with bipolar disorder when ill or when symptomatic experience more lows than highs. Unfortunately, the lows I experienced were so extreme that the friends I thought would be by my side through anything chose to follow other kids and use my disorder to bully me creating deeper depression. Initially, I felt stigmatized by my diagnosis. Most people I encountered either didn’t know what bipolar was or how to interact with someone suffering with the disorder. Teachers, peers, and family members had a hard time knowing what to say or how to act around me. I started to feel like I was no longer my own person but just one big disaster and my mood swings became even more extreme as a result. Eventually, I grew tired of feeling sorry for myself and began my quest for the right medication, vitamins, nutrition, psychological and spiritual health and wellbeing. I found my inner strength and courage. I put my energy into school, new friendships and family and started…

In October 2010, the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF) and the Institute of Medicine (IOM) jointly released The Future of Nursing: Leading Change, Advancing Health. This report focuses on how nursing can help to meet the demands of an increased population of patients. This report has four key points. "(1) ensure that nurses can practice to the full extent of their education and training, (2) improve nursing education, (3) provide opportunities for nurses to assume leadership positions and to serve as full partners in health care redesign and improvement efforts, and (4) improve data collection for workforce planning and policy making." (Future of Nursing,p29) The report outlines how the nurses role will need to transform into one of a primary caregiver, and what actions will need to be taken to fulfill this role.…
Nurses often work in places where they perform hands-on care to patients which involves nurses having to administer medication, monitoring a patience condition, maintaining patient’s records and also communicating with other staff members as well as the patient and their family. Nurses are responsible for contributing to a moral environment that encourages respectful interactions with colleagues, support of peers, and identification of issues that need to be…
I strongly intend to be a computer engineer. I am inspired by many successful people that had graduated in Computer Engineer at Chulalonkorn University. Witnessing those famous graduates devoting their knowledge to country and to the world has encouraged my decision that this is the right place as much as I am the right perspective student. My inspiration has become even more intensified since I worked as a trainee of Android Programming Development Section at Opendurian Company. Being a growing expert in computing would enable me to solve complex computer problems rarely ever solved and may launch innovations to make changes to the world. I am very confident that my computer company which I plan to begin after my graduation from the faculty to run with the engineering grounding would help me explore all opportunities beyond boundaries. And indeed Chulalongkorn is my first university choice.…
