“Patrick Henry”

1. The basic question debated at Virginia convention was how much Reverend James Murray should be paid. 2. He suggested the British were un-trust worthy because he opposed a lot of their taxations. 3. He led his Hanover Militia company to the outskirts of Williamsburg and demanded payment. He had little difficulty finding troops and had a growing number of supporters. 4. He means he will always be loyal to God and when it comes to kings on earth, he will put them aside and believe what he wants. 5. He wanted to maintain the spirit of the revolution. 6. “Are we disposed to be of the number of those who, having eyes, se not and having ears hear not the things which so nearly concern their temporal salvation?” He was trying to explain the fact that we have eyes but we don’t truly see what is in front of us. We have ears but we only hear what we want to hear, he is asking why do we do this. 7. “Sir we are not weak a proper us of those means which the God of nature hath in our power.” ; “There is just God who presides over the destines of nations and who will raise up friends to fight our battles for us.” ; “Almighty God I know what course others may take but as for me, give me liberty or give me death.” Henry is using God in all of these quotes to show that he believes that God will him, will help America. 8. Henry uses his allusions from the biblical reference when Judas betrays Jesus Christ by a kiss. Symbolically America betraying Britain by wanting to break away, just like Judas broke away from Christ. 9. In the first paragraphs the sentences are statements and he is stating what he is about to talk about. The last paragraph the sentences are short and he asking the audience questions about what he just spoke about. 10. We have entreated; we have expostulated; we have beseeched; we have prostrated ourselves before the throne, and have craved its interposition to arrest the tyrannical hands of the ministry and Parliament.

ESSAY CHOICE A
Someone must defend poor King George and the British, and that someone is you! You are a loyalist and amidst the screaming and clapping for Henry's impassioned speech you have stood up to answer him. As you take the floor, you straighten your back, lift your head, clear your throat and say ...

My good people have you gone mad? Why would you imagine about going in opposition to King George! If it was not for the crown you and I would not be standing here right now, we would be in Britain. We would be under the crown’s ruling anyways even if we were back in Britain, why go against it now? All King George has done is given us the tools to make the British crown powerful! Why would we break away and make our own smaller weaker country? We have the crown the prevailing British army to aide us if need be what else could we want? We have everything we could possibly need protection, an army, and an influential ruler! I this is a dim - witted idea going against our mother country! It is like child against parent which is erroneous! We must stay loyal to the ones that gave us birth therefore we must stay loyal to the British Crown. We must stay true and bold to our heritage we must not fight it off, that’s why I am speaking against this and for the British rule. Who have all the authority to rule since they founded us on the thought of expanding the great British Empire!

Henry not only used moral credibility, but also made me feel frustration. When Henry passionately states, “We have held the subject up in every light of which it is capable; but it has been all in vain” I immediately felt frustrated. When Henry used the words “in every light of which it is capable” I was irritated by the rejection of the colonists efforts. I had not realized the great effort us colonists had put into fighting for freedom, and that effort is not something that should be overlooked. The frustration began to fade away as he inspired me by his logic. When Henry was explaining our past efforts to gain freedom, he uses the wise words, “I know of no way of judging of the future but by the past” my mind started to turn. As a colony, we have constantly been threatened by the King’s actions, so what is different now? We are still under a tyrannical authority who abuses his power, and we must take a stand. Patrick Henry’s speech was inspiring, and persuaded me to put my life on the line to ensure freedom is upon our colony. Please do not worry too much about my sudden shift in…

Sleep is precious to us. When we sleep, we escape reality for awhile and rest our minds and our bodies. Sleep is a necessity for all people and we falter without it. This particular soliloquy written by Shakespeare from Henry IV, Part II, King Henry is unable to sleep. His state of mind throughout the time during his inability to sleep is for the most part, frustration but also some jealousy, because others can sleep and he cannot.…

Henry views the situation of being ruled by Great Britain as “nothing less than a question of freedom or slavery” (Henry). If slavery is at question, it is without a doubt a major predicament for the colonists and could turn into reality if no action is taken. Therefore, Henry reiterates “We must fight! I repeat, we must fight!” as a method to persuade the colonists to take a stand. In order for the colonists to avoid being enslaved, they need to take action or they will continue to be politically…

Why sit and do as the English say so that later they can carelessly use the colonists as if they were lesser men? Further in his Speech to the Virginia Convention Henry states, “ Mr. President, it is natural to man to indulge in the illusions of hope.” what he means is that it is natural that man hopes for freedom without fighting. His refutation comes with the use of the word “illusions.” He is refuting by saying that freedom without fighting is only an illusion—it cannot be a reality. Also he states later in the speech, “Are we disposed to be of the number of those who, having eyes, see not, and, having ears, hear not, the things which so nearly concern their temporal salvation?” In which he means that they have seen what Britain is doing, they know the wrongs that have been done against them, yet they sit and still solemnly fall victim to their wishes like puppets played by the king’s hand. Aquinas on Law

He talks about four types of law. These laws are eternal law, divine law
, natural law, and human law. He explains eternal law as that it is nothing else but verbalized by the person who is charge of the community, he is saying that whole universe is ruled by Divine Providence. He also states that it can be called law because god overlooks to the universe just like ruler does to community. Consequently god’s reason is understood by god and its nature is unchanging, it called eternal law. Next law that he is describing is divine law. He is saying that it was necessary for human creator to have a divine law and it has four reasons. The first reason is that the man is directed by law how to properly act until the end therefore if there weren’t proportionated to their nature faculty there would not be needed directions and other law, but because human is meant to achieve an eternal happiness, it is necessary that besides natural and human laws they have to be guided by the law that is given directly from god. The second reason is according to human’s poor judgment ability on human’s behavior, man must know without doubt what he must do and what he must avoid. It is important for mankind to be guided by the law that is given by god. The third reason in that the man can come up with the law that he is capable to judge, but he is only able to judge outside act but not inside, the hidden acts. Therefore the human law it is not enough to control person’s inner state so that’s why law given by god is important and necessary. Fourthly, because human law…

Henry Hudson was an English explorer and navigator in the 17th century. He was born in 1570 in England, His family was pure English. He had no recorded siblings. Because Hudson appears first in written records in 1607 and his life prior to his expeditions is unrecorded. Nothing is known up to this point. Considering his eventual position as ship 's captain, however, he likely spent many of those early years at sea. He probably started as a cabin boy and gradually worked his way up to the rank of captain. Hudson was married to a woman named Katherine because she petitioned the British East India Company to send a ship to look for Hudson three years after his disappearance. Hudson had three sons—Richard, John, and Oliver. John served as a ship 's boy on all four of his father 's voyages, and the mutinous crew left him to die as well. The reason Hudson became an explorer is because he was hired by the Muscovy Company of England to search for new routes to Asia and Africa, which the Dutch Navigator Willem Barents had failed to find. He died in 1611, in Hudson Bay, Canada. He died of common flu, because his crew had mutinied and marooned him and his son.…
