In the world today, there are so many rules about how to live life. Some people have a positive outlook on life and forgive their own mistakes. If something goes wrong, they solve their problem and forget about it the next day. This is the ideal way to deal with mistakes and other complications. On the other hand, there are some people that will not let go of the blunders they have done wrong in the past. There are characters in My Sisters Keeper by Jodi Picout that do not follow Ralph Waldo Emerson's knowledge of letting go of the past. Sara and Jesse Fitzgerald do not follow the quote, because they cannot forgive themselves for mistakes they have made.
There are many people that will not let go of the past, which is a huge mistake. Not letting go of the past is very negative, and could lead to emotional problems. Ralph Waldo Emerson once said, "Finish each day and be done with it, you have done what you could. Some blunders and absurdities no doubt crept in; forget them as soon as you can. Tomorrow is a new day". This quote is explaining how terrible it is to hold on to past mistakes. There are people that blame themselves for horrible situations, and it is not always their fault. Not only do they potentially ruin their lives for dwelling on the past, they could potentially damage the lives of the people they care about the most.
Sara Fitzgerald does not follow the advice of Ralph Waldo Emerson. For years, her daughter Kate has been struggling with a rate form of Leukemia. Kate needs vital blood transfusions. Sara does not have the same blood type as Kate. She feels extremely guilty that she could not help her. With the support of doctors, she purposely conceived a baby with the same blood type as Kate.
