International Business is an interdisciplinary course. Its topics are highly diversified in nature and scope. They cover many fields of knowledge such as geography, history, sociology, economics and management. The themes presented are designed to provide students with global perspectives.

I - Learning Objectives

By the end of this course, participants will be able to:
1. Develop a global perspective regarding globalization and world culture. 2. Apply international business and cultural concepts in professional and personal fields. 3. Develop greater awareness and skills regarding cross cultural communication. 4. Develop information competency needed in order to identify, retrieve and present international business professional reports.

We will demonstrate how the above objectives support University and College learning objectives and meet AACSB International Learning Standards.

Important Notice:

There is no need to buy the expensive 6th. Edition, since little had been changed from the 5th. Edition! Moreover, we will learn in this class how to obtain up-to-date IB information by using reliable professional databases such as The Economist Intelligence Unit, Views Wire, Global Edge and Books 24x7.

III - The Teaching / Learning Approach

Classroom attendance, discussion and library assignments are integral parts of the learning process. The teaching format for this class is an interactive participatory one. The class will be conducted primarily as a seminar. It will be animated by up-to-date cases, research work assignments and presentations.

Students are expected to attend all classes on time and always prepared to discuss the assigned topics.

IV - Grading System

Students are responsible for the topics, concepts and cases presented and discussed in the class. Tests and Research Work assignments will evaluate the student's understanding to key terms and topics covered. Assignments are evaluated on the basis of clarity, depth, relevancy of information gathered as well as the professional outlook.

The final grade is based on the student's accumulated “Weighted Totals” in accordance with the average scores in the following activities and percentages:

The final “letter grade” is based on the following scale: 95 -100=A, 91- 94=A-, 88 - 90=B+, 85 - 87=B, 81- 84=B-, 77- 80=C+, 73 - 76=C; 69 - 72=C-, 65 - 68=D+, 61- 64=D, 0 - 60=F.

This course covers a broad area of knowledge. In order to learn the material, you must keep up with the readings, RW assignments and attend all classes. The pace of the course is very challenging. You should expect to work hard and plan your time accordingly.
