Our heart beat, our lungs oscillate, we hear because our ear drum vibrates… Vibration even makes us snore!! The light waves which permit us to see & sound waves through which we hear entail vibration We cannot even say “Vibration” without vibration of larynges, vocal cord We move by oscillating our legs We limit out discussion to “MECHANICAL VIBRATION”… i.e. Vibration of Dynamic Systems What is a Dynamic System??? Any System that contain Mass and Elasticity.

The Milling machine was quite important to almost any factory worker by making their job much more easier. There are multiple types of Milling machines such as the Vertical, Horizontal, Bed, and Turret. Many different types of tools where used with the MIlling machine including multiple types of Bolts, Screws, and Toolholders. Surprisingly the Milling machine is still available to this day and is still being used all around the world thanks to Eli Whitney.…

This was all necessary to investigate as sometimes objects/structures such as cars will experience motions which bring them close to their natural frequency of vibration, be it sinusoidally or otherwise which causes the amplitude experienced by the object to reach its maximum which can have significant effects on that object and the factors affecting it during oscillation.…

So what about our nervous system helps us identify these sensations? In order for our bodies to perceive vibrations we need Pacinian corpuscles. The Pacinian corpuscles are located our fingers and hands where they detect vibrations by responding to rapid wavelength vibrations. Additionally, we are able to perceive texture through the use of three cues: Surface texture, spatial cues, and temporal cues. These cues allow us to experience physical…

In Mechanics and Physics, simple harmonic motion (SHM) is a periodic motion that is neither driven on damped by external forces. An object in simple harmonic motion experiences a net force which relates to Hooke’s law. Hooke’s law states “Force is directly proportional to the displacement from the equilibrium position and acts in the opposite direction of the displacement”.…

This physics textbook is designed to support my personal teaching activities at Duke University, in particular teaching its Physics 141/142, 151/152, or 161/162 series (Introductory Physics for life science majors, engineers, or potential physics majors, respectively). It is freely available in its entirety in a downloadable PDF form or to be read online at: http://www.phy.duke.edu/∼rgb/Class/intro physics 1.php It is also available in an inexpensive (really!) print version via Lulu press here: http://www.lulu.com/shop/product-21186588.html where readers/users can voluntarily help support or reward the author by purchasing either this paper copy or one of the even more inexpensive electronic copies. By making the book available in these various media at a cost ranging from free to cheap, I enable the text can be used by students all over the world where each student can pay (or not) according to their means. Nevertheless, I am hoping that students who truly find this work useful will purchase a copy through Lulu or a bookseller (when the latter option becomes available), if only to help subsidize me while I continue to write inexpensive textbooks in physics or other subjects. This textbook is organized for ease of presentation and ease of learning. In particular, they are hierarchically organized in a way that directly supports efficient learning. They are also remarkably complete in their presentation and contain moderately detailed derivations of many of the important equations and relations from first principles while not skimping on simpler heuristic or conceptual explanations as well. As a “live” document (one I actively use and frequently change, adding or deleting material or altering the presentation in some way), this textbook may have…

This lab was based on projectile motion and it was to prove the theory that was covered in lecture 5 to be correct. When dealing with projectile motion, it is the theory that when an object has been fired from its starting point into the air, it will come under the influence of gravity and is attracted to ground with an acceleration of g m/s squared. In the lab a projectile launcher was used to project two steel balls, one in the horizontal direction and one in the vertical direction. The ball that was launched in the vertical direction was ball 1 and the ball that was launched in the horizontal direction was ball 2. The purpose of this experiment was to investigate projectile motion through the use of a vertical acceleration apparatus which shows the independence of vertical acceleration from the horizontal velocity.…
