Overview - Communication in Health and Social Care or Children's and Young People's Settings

Good communication skills are essential for health and social care professionals, because they help them to develop relationships and demonstrate that they care.

This course has been designed to provide learners with a basic understanding of what communication is, and how it is used to support people who need help. It provides with learners an increased understanding of why effective communication is important as well as the required knowledge to overcome barriers to communication.

On completion of this course learners will be able to:

Understand why effective communication is important in the work setting Be able to meet the communication and language needs, wishes and preferences of individuals Be able to overcome barriers to communication

Be able to apply principles and practices relating to confidentiality The content of this course has been mapped to the underpinning knowledge within the following units on the Qualifications and Credit Framework (QCF):
