Part 1: Jordan | | Jordan is a moderately small country that is located at the junction of the Levantine and Arabian areas of the Middle East. It is surrounded by the deserts of the Middle East. The Jordanian country is bordered with Saudi Arabia to the southeast, with Iraq to the east with Syria to the north and with the occupied West Bank and Israel to the west. However, Jordan, West Bank and Israel are sharing control of the Dead Sea. Although, Jordan’s only opening to the Red Sea, is through the Gulf of Aqaba, which is to the south. The only coastline that Jordan has is about 16 miles/26 kilometers in length and this is located on the Gulf of Aqaba. Jordan occupies an area of approximately 96,188 square kilometers/37.138394 square mile including the Dead Sea, making it similar in size to Austria or Portugal. Most of the population lives in the northwest on the east bank of the river Jordan. However, Jordan’s diverse territory and landscape contradict its actual size, representing a variety, generally found only in large countries. Furthermore, Jordan has a unique climate throughout the year because it could be divided into three main climatic areas. The first being the Jordan Valley climate, that has a more pleasant weather during the autumn and spring. Second is the Mountain Heights Plateau that receives the highest amount of rainfall in Jordan and it has the richest vegetables in the country. The last climatic area is the Eastern Desert/Badia region this area makes up 75 percent of Jordan land and has the driest climate in Jordan with less than 200 mm of rainfall yearly. However, most of Western Jordan has basically a Mediterranean climate with a hot, dry summer and a cool, wet winter and two fairly short transitional seasons. On the other hand, July and August are the hottest and driest months of the year, mainly in Amman, the Jordan Valley and also in the desert areas.
