Information systems (IS) is the study of complementary networks of hardware and software that people and organizations use to collect, filter, process, create, and distribute data.

Transaction Processing Systems(TPS)
It is a system that handles all the processing and tracking of transactions in a certain business. The very basic form of recording business transactions through systems is entering all the quantities of goods bought, swiping the credit card through card reader and entering other information into point-of-sales system. The critical data must be entered into the information system before the transaction is completed. The businesses require the means to process data transactions fast and facilitate customer request through smooth flow of data within the business and ensure timely responses to suppliers and partners. The main problems faced may be handling simultaneous users, the need to allow users to work on the same set of data with immediate updating and handling errors in a safe and consistent manner.

Office Support Systems(OSS)
These systems are designed to manage information in a way that helps user with the handling of information-related tasks.OSS primarily aid data workers (although they are also used extensively by knowledge workers). User can perform various operations like word processing, accounting, document management and communications. To minimize time wastage and effort, OSS can assist in planning, designing and selling.
