Invisible Broken Wire Detector
INVISIBLE BROKEN WIRE DETECTOR

1. INTRODUCTION
In our day to day life we are dealing with electricity as well as so many electrical equipments. In this electrical equipment the household appliances play a major role.
So the fault occurring with them is also a major problem. Generally the fault seen is the breaking of wire inside the two layer or three layer cables or the short circuit between them. Portable loads such as video cameras, halogen flood lights, electrical irons, hand drill, grinders, and cutters are powered by connecting long 2- or 3-core cables to the mains plug. Due to prolonged usage, the power cord wires are subjected to mechanical strain and stress, which can lead to internal snapping or short circuiting of wires at any point. In such a case most people go for replacing the core/cable, as finding the exact location of a fault of the wire is difficult. In 3core cables, it appears almost impossible to detect a fault portion of the wire and the point of break or short circuit without physically disturbing all the three Wires that are concealed in a PVC jacket.
Invisible Broken Wire Detector:
The circuit presented here can easily and quickly detect a faulty wire and its point of open circuit or short circuit in 1-core, 2-core, and 3-core cables without physically disturbing the wires. The circuit present here can work in the two modes of operation. One is the mode of invisible broken wire detector and the second as a short checker. The invisible broken wire detector exactly find the location of the fault due to the breakage of wire inside the cables while the second circuit will find whether the fault is a short circuit fault which is happening due to the burning of insulation inside the cables. Hence this circuit offers a simple and better way of finding the faults in the household appliances.

These instruments are essentially cable tracing tools. If you need to locate a specific copper cable amongst many cables, this would be the correct tool for the job. This tester is most often used to locate a specific cable on a punch-down block. Also, by testing the continuity of individual wires by using alligator clips, you could use a tone generator and probe to locate opens, shorts, and mis-wires.…

Coaxial cable conducts electrical signal using an inner conductor (usually a solid copper, stranded copper or copper plated steel wire) surrounded by an insulating layer and all enclosed by a shield, typically one to four layers of woven metallic braid and metallic tape. The cable is protected by an outer insulating jacket. Normally, the shield is kept at ground potential and a voltage is applied to the center conductor to carry electrical signals.…

A short circuit is a circuit that has zero resistance. Any components in parallel with a short circuit has zero volts across it, and all the current goes through the short circuit. It is often referred to as a short. Characteristics of a short circuit included the resistance of the shorted component is extremely low. The current through the short-circuit current path is extremely high. This high current may cause a circuit fuse to open or some other component to open. The voltage across the shorted component is extremely low.…

We learned that Although houses today often contain circuit breakers rather than fuses, fuses are still around. A fuse contains a thin strip of wire, somewhat like the thin iron wire in our experiment. The current that goes to appliances must also pass through this strip of wire. And that If a short circuit occurs—or even if too many appliances get hooked up to one wire, so that too much current flows—the wire in the fuse heats up quickly and melts, breaking the circuit and preventing a fire from breaking out. But what is a short circuit? A short circuit is a device, an electrical circuit of lower resistance than that of a normal circuit, typically resulting from the unintended contact of components and consequent accidental diversion of the…

The seriousness of the action to be taken on an Earth Fault depends on the part of the electrical system it affects. Conventional ships which operate on 3 Phase, 440V, have earth fault indicators installed on all three phases. Any earth fault on a 440V system is considered to be a serious trouble and immediate action is required to identify the faulty circuit. Any earth fault on 220V or any low voltage lighting circuit can be considered as important but need not require immediate attention. However, attention should be paid at the next earliest opportunity.…
