Dear Ms Pauline, Re : Application to study University Preparation Course (Education Assistant Program) C20 at ECU.

Introduction

My name is Sulistiawaty but I prefer to be called “Ellison” for a private reason. I was born in Singapore on 25th day of July 1978. Raised by my parents with very strong believe in education, respecting other cultures and mannerism. I studied all the important subjects in both Primary and Secondary School in Singapore. In 1995, I completed my studies and started to work, and the last company that I have worked in Singapore is the year 2008 as I have to move to Perth, Western Australia with my husband for his current employment.

I stopped studying at Secondary school and never thought of graduating from any University. I couldn’t imagine myself wearing an engineer’s helmet nor a nurse’s scrub. I never thought about being a teacher until I have got 2 toddlers of a very close age gap between them. At that instant, I did imagine myself inside the classroom with maybe 20 or 30 pairs of eyes staring at me with curiosity and eagerness to learn from what is inside my grey matter. That drives me to attend University and graduate!

I took up this Education Assistant Program because, I believe I will be a good mother, a teacher to both my kids, nurturing them with knowledge, feeding them with manners besides good food and cultivate their tiny little brain to grow, fill up with lots of information of education and the importance in life.

I believe everyone has progressed to where they are in life because they had a teacher or a mentor. A teacher is defined as someone who gives instructions and communication skills. Our children are our future and they need to be prepared for the future or they will not be successful in the working world. Teaching makes a difference in them, because it gives them tools to help them be successful in the future. I would like to tell you why I would like to become an education teacher and what has led me to this decision.

Reasons

 My kids ‘Daily Humour’ have given me a positive attitude and sense of humour. I will always have things to laugh about each day. Sometimes, it will be the silliest things they have done, but I will make it up into educational such as, they loved tearing their books but I will pick it up and read to them instead. Telling them that it is a book to read not something that they can tear up! Sometimes, it will be some other silly stuffs or words that I can’t figure out what they are saying but by teaching them to pronounce the words correctly it makes them understand although it sounded funny, makes me feel that teaching is fun and my kids enjoy it.
 I loved spending time with my family, especially with my kids. Seeing them grow happy as I am very conductive to Family Life. The school calendar will typically allow me to have same day off as my kids. I can also bring work home for me to grade or plan at the comfort of my home while being with my children.
 A teacher has the direct opportunity to make a difference, to change the future.
 It will satisfy me to see smiles on students’ faces when they discover a new skill, just like seeing the smile on my kids face when they have learnt how to build tall buildings out of wooden blocks.
 Sharing knowledge that students may not know.
 Parents who appreciate me and encourage me to continue what I am doing to educate their children.
 Learning something new along with my students.
 The hope that I will influence someone else in a positive way.
I am taking this chance to inspire and influence other human beings. I am prepared for the challenges. I want to change the mentality of students that going to school is ‘NOT’ for the sake of going or being afraid of their parents; I want them to know that school is the second best place to be. It is a place of fun, joy and knowledge. And when one day, as they stepped out of their school, they will turn back and said to themselves “Thank you Mrs/Ms _____(teacher’s name), for nurturing me with all the knowledge that I thirst for. Now I am ready to face the world just like you have inspired me and my classmates”. I intend to be ‘that teacher’ one day.
“Knowledge is the light of life”
Goals
 To teach and to be taught.
 To motivate, influence and empower students and parents to be involved with one another when it comes to Education.
 To instil empathy and compassion.
 To help and encourage students to discover their talent and gift for their future endeavour.
 To have contagious enthusiasm and humour.
Above all, I am ready to commit 100% full time to the education program that I am applying at the University to achieve my goals, strive to be a competent and knowledgeable teacher for myself, my family and to the community towards my future career.
Your consideration towards my above mentioned application is very much appreciated.
Do not hesitate to contact me at my mobile or email should you require further informations.
Yours Sincerely,

Sulistiawaty (“Ellison”)

When I graduated high school I knew I was going to attend college. It wasn’t a question. It was instilled in me as a child that I would be the only one of my siblings to go to school. My brothers would be forced into the military. It was never a desire of mine to attend college. It was more like the expected next step. Needless to say my passion for school was null and void. I attribute my academic standing to this fact. Maybe if I'd thought about what I wanted to do with my life versus just going with what was expected I would've done a little better.…

Education is the most important part of my life. Couple reasons why I attend college it’s to better myself, get a higher paying job and get away from home. First, not going to college was not an option for me; furthermore, both of my parents attended college and graduated college and they have the jobs they always wanted. They always encouraged me to get a higher education and I agree. When I see people that struggle with finances because they didn’t go to college; certainly, it made me want to go and get my bachelor’s degree even faster. Second, I do not want to live my life, paycheck to paycheck, and worrying about whether or not I am going to have enough money to pay to keep a roof over my head. The reason for going to college is that I want to have a better life. Finally, college is vital to how far you can go. If I would settle only for a High school diploma or less, I would not go as far as I want to go; I will keep hopping from one dead-end job to another; for instance, my friend who have worked everywhere and is never happy because of the hard work she has to do and little money she gets. I would want to be more as a college graduate who is at home relaxing in my huge house, watching my sixty-four inch Plasma TV in High Definition. I believe that college will lead me to a life of fulfillment and realized dreams. No one ever regretted going to college, I wish I could say the same for the person who…
