To be stressed or not to be stressed? What stresses you out in your life? In a nut shell, it all boils down to the major things taking place in your life. Stress is the body’s reaction to a change that requires a physical, mental or emotional adjustment. It is usually caused by something that is out of the ordinary from everyday life, things like tests, family problems and loss of employment. Today, students have so much stress because of some many different factors in life. Stress for college students impacts the lives of these students that ate full of school related issues, relationships, and peer pressure.
School related issues cause so much stress for students these days. It can be caused by doing poorly in college that these students end up giving up all hope on doing something worthwhile with life, or it could be caused by just not living up to their own expectations. They thought that they would have it easy and they would have done so much better. A main cause of stress is adapting to the new life which students have suddenly fallen into. For many, it is the first time outside the nurturing and protective security of their family’s home. My parents used to provide me with all my needs and had set boundaries to live by. This no longer applies in college and one of the first tasks that students undertake is finding an identity and effectively tests the rules that were set out by their parents. Other factors tied in with stress are how people tend to deal with things, such as drinking or smoking. These are the worst ways to try relieving stress. The belief is that these are some of the most common ways to deal with stress. For example, one of my friends will go out to drink when he knows he is stressing over a paper he failed or a exam he didn’t pass. Most students do not know how to handle the stress they have so they use alcohol, tobacco, drugs or cheating as a stress reliever.
