I Love English
I LOVE ENGLISH I've always wanted to share this to someone but I never got the chance. This is the biggest secret in my whole life. Nobody knows about this not even my sisters that I'm in love!! After every breath and every hour that I've spent with my love it had lead to this. I love you for a thousand years and I'll love you for a thousand more my dear English!!! English had always been the love of my life and it will always be. I fell in love with this spectacular English about ten years ago. All those nursery rhymes in English created a small thing for English in my heart. Especially the rhyme about Humpty Dumpty who was dumped to the ground even without tripping over a hump. Oh yes, not forgetting the famous Jack and Jill who went to the hill to fetch a pail of water but sadly it's banned now. Never mind the pre-school students still have the rhyme about the fish which bit the boy who caught it alive.

With all this, I realised that I have a huge amount of interest in literature especially in poetry. And I felt like I-I love you like a love song English and I keep hitting repeat. That's when I started writing my own poems. Literature is actually the most loveliest thing in English. The whole beauty of English is in it. I love to write things in a literal meaning as it is the best part of English. Poetry is in fact one of the ultimate reason for the deep affection that I have for English. With all this, there is also one main factor for the love that I have for English which is my English teacher during my standard 2 and 3, Ms Rinny Seah Kwee Jean. She had been a wonderful teacher and I must say that I had been always the apple of her eye. I just love her spelling rounds. Everyone would be spelling the words wrongly and only I'll be the only one to know how to spell each and every word that she asks perfectly.

Everything about English invites me in. Even if a boy talks English so well and fluently with all those bombastic words I'll

In my own K-12 experience, I maybe once heard a student admit that his favorite subject was English. Most of the time, it was something under science or social studies (economics, usually—who didn’t want to learn how to be a millionaire by the time you retire?). Math was rarely an answer (as one of those students who prefers math, I never understood the dislike for it), but it was heard more than…

What I like about the English language is where it originated for which is the Germanic tribes who invaded Britain during the 5th century AD. From the 16th century the British had contact with many peoples from around the world and the English language traveled all around the world. Since the 5th century new words ,phrases , and forms of writing have developed.…

In the poem “Icarus,” Christine Hemp uses literary devices to convey that a father-son relationship can be problematic. Hemp pulls a twist on the original myth, and retells it in Icarus’ point of view. Her version of the myth shows that Icarus wasn’t very fond of his father Daedalus; however Daedalus didn’t realize that Icarus wanted to be free. “bound by the string…for years to untie TO I didn’t know…to return” (#14 and 15 TO 16 and 17) This quote portrays the emotion Icarus feels towards his father by the use of irony. At this point, the reader understands that Icarus had to deal with Daedalus with only the hope of exiting the prison, but once free he longs to be away from his father. Christine Hemp threw a new strand of emotion into the mix by showing that Icarus wanted to be free; as doing so, he caused a catastrophe. “Poor Daedalus, his mouth an O below, his hands outstretched to catch the rain…” (#18 and 19) This excerpt shows diction, which illustrates Daedalus’ innocence with the words ‘poor’ and ‘O below’. Hemp also tried to show the difference between Icarus and Daedalus by using asyndeton. “my clumsiness with figures, father’s calm impatience, cool logic, interminable devising.” (#8 and 9) This shows Icarus’ reasons as to why he doesn’t like Daedalus, and why he tries to be better than his father. Since Daedalus is clueless, he couldn’t prevent Icarus’ death; now the reader can infer that Daedalus will have a life of sorrow and regret, without knowing the truth. Hemp’s use of the devices diction, irony, and asyndeton help the reader further understand the myth in a way the original myth couldn’t.…

Love is an everchanging concept. Throughout the years, the classification of it constantly goes through various changes, and the exact meaning of it is never truly defined as one definite definition. The most accurate method of describing love is examining the countless ways it can be represented. For each person, a new meaning takes hold of the very sought-after emotion. It is through the use of literary works that the concept of love has been able to somewhat receive a label.…

English is not only a subject, it is also an art. When you are reading a book, for instance, and the book is explaining the characters or the location of the story, if you have a vivid and artistic imagination, you can visualize exactly how the characters or the location of the story is painted. I always had a personal connection with English since my childhood to the present.…

I have always loved language. I discovered my passion for language when I learned how to read and write. Learning how to read and write English has been a journey of self-discovery. I remember learning some alphabets before I started going to school. I learnt the alphabet from some learning materials my older siblings had used in school. They would teach me how to pronounce a few alphabetical letters though I did not understand how they are used in language. I guess I just crammed the pronunciations and at times would forget. It was after I started going to school that I actually learnt how to read and write the alphabets on my own.…

It is precisely this enjoyment of the beauty of English resulting from my reading of literary classics that inspired my own impulses to write. I tried to record my own observations of nature and my own perceptions of life with the tentative skills in English writing. The more I practiced, the more I became interested in English composition. Furthermore, I developed the habit of thinking in English when writing my compositions. These two reciprocally benefiting processes contributed to my unparalleled aptitudes in written English in my class. The joy of reading English and writing English reinforced my already deep love for English language…
