I believe in my hens for their beautiful eggs and energy. Hens produce ravishing eggs and life. They're not expensive and needy, they will survive like minimalist. I believe in hens because they give me eggs for never ending recipes, a beautiful creation of life, and manure to fertilize my garden. Hens also have an extraordinary vibe that they give off; I can sit there for a countless amount of time and feel so relaxed.
My hens and I are on the same page. We love the nature around us and what it offers. I give them a beautiful life and in return, they give me certain things back. All of us keep in effort to keep the bugs at bay in my garden. Once I let them out of the coop in the morning, they just zoom through the garden with all kinds of grubs waiting to be devoured. Well not waiting exactly. As the day goes on, I sit there and watch them. It gives me a warm feeling to see how peaceful they are and to know that we all trust each other. I believe the idea of having hens came to me for a reason. The universe and God wanted me to experience the sustainable living that I could have. So one day, I asked my grandpa if he could build me a coop, and he did. A beautiful coop with a decent amount of space. Then I told my mom that having my own hens would increase my natural responsibility instinct and it would be organic and save us a lot of money. So my grandpa and I bought 3 rescued, battery hens and one Buff Orpington. I felt so great saving hens, the terrible, in-humane thing that happened to them, was that they had their beaks cut off! They were defiantly scarred. But over a period of time, we began to build a network of trust.
Now I have had my hens for about a year and I am still going strong. Goldie, Sage, Marie, and Jasper all have their own personalities. When having hens, there comes a great amount of chores. In the morning, make sure they have food and fresh water. Collect the eggs and scoop the poop out, same thing at night also. I do grow very weary, as this is a daily routine. But when I look at it from a different point of view, I see how I can still enjoy it. How I still feel relaxed and loved by them. All I do is remember what gifts we give to each other and then the weariness fades.
Thanks to my wonderful hens, I acknowledge the tasks and responsibilities that I have now. And I do enjoy it very much. I do believe in my Hens.
