I Am Not Scared
Is Michele a flawless (无瑕疵的; 无裂缝的; 无缺点的)hero?
Stacey

As far as I am concerned, Michele isn’t a flawless hero. Nobody is completely perfect. Although Michele has strong moral convictions, the entire community of Aqua Traverse does not have. He also has his own defect, such as his greedy (for) things and disloyalty and betrayal to filippo.

At the beginning of story, when Michele discovers Filippo, he doesn’t show any normal feelings. He just think the boy in the hole is his because he finds him firstly, which just like skull decided” finders keeper.” (Unlike others, Michele does not show any apparent fear towards the boy in the hole. Instead he is intrigued by this boy and wanted to further discover any secretes behind this.). From that we can see that Michele, at the beginning of the story, is a little bit greedy and vain. He wants to keep his own discovery as a secret, because he is afraid that skull take away and show off his discovery to others. He is just like a selfish little boy who gets a new toys and don’t want to share with others. His behaviour and thoughts reveals the weakness of his character, greed. Being a part of human nature, a sense of greed is almost inevitable in every human. There is no denying that initially filliop is regarded as an interesting toy by Michele. Even if, later Michele becomes good friend with filliop and brings food and water to filiop.

Michele has the ability to develop a great insight for the things in his surroundings. His perception and his sense of maturity has lead him to a ‘right’ path in life. The morale embedded in him gives him the ability to distinguish right from wrong despite being only a young boy. However, it doesn’t mean that he is a flawless person. He still can’t stand the lure of many things.

From the novel, I also can see that Michele was really jealous of salavatore having excellent toys . Whereas, compared to his own situation, he just has a stupid Venetian boat to put on the

When Michele finds out that his once ‘hero’ parents are involved in the cruel kidnapping of a boy just for money, he loses his trust in them. At the start of the novel, Ammaniti is constantly using Pino and Therese in Michele’s dreams and imaginations to show how much love and admiration Michele has for his parents. As the novel goes on, these descriptions become less and less common as Michele finds out more about his parents’ secret behaviours. Although him and his family are poor, Michele shows no sympathy for their choices. When his parents find out that Michele knows about the kidnapping, they try to bribe him with a new bike. This only makes Michele’s trust in his parents even smaller. Ammaniti uses the bike to show the trust between Michele and his parents. At first the bike temporarily repairs the trust and works to perfection, but once the excitement wears off, Michele comes to the realisation that it isn’t as good as he thought it was. When he ditches his new bike for his old one, it is a symbol of the end of his trust in his parents. These objects make Michele become aware of the importance of trust and loyalty.…

Rappaccini keeps his daughter, Beatrice, secluded in his garden where she is full of poison. He thinks by doing this, he would be protecting her from the evils in the world. Some townspeople believe he sees other people as science experiments, rather than actual human beings. Although he may see his daughter as his daughter, an actual human being, it seems as though he sees her as a science experiment as well. By turning Beatrice poisonous, he isolates her from the rest of the world. Hawthorne stated, “You have heard of this daughter, whom all the young men in Padua are wild about, though not half a dozen have ever had the good hap to see her face.” - The Professor (http://www.columbia.edu/itc/english/f1124y-001/resourc es/Rappaccinis_Daughter.pdf). Isolating someone from society can cause them to act differently and/or strangely towards others because they don’t know differently. We see this portrayed in Rappaccini's Daughter. By isolating Beatrice from society, she became different and it caused her to act differently towards Giovanni. Because Dr. Rappaccini isolated his daughter from society to try to save her from the evil of the world, it shows the theme of isolation and how much of an impact it can have on a…

Niccolo Ammaniti demonstrates in his popular novel, 'I'm Not Scared', the role fear plays in people’s lives and their respective decisions. He discusses how fear is able to manipulate key character's moral instincts and distort their interpretations of what is right. The condition that Filippo was in is further proof that Pino is an evil man. Filippo’s skin was “…caked with mud…eyelids were sealed with blood…lips were dark and split…All his teeth had gone black.” Pino and the adults of Acqua Traverse treated Filippo like an animal and an item of trade. They did not give Filippo enough food, starving the boy in a dirty whole. They fed him scraps from home, for example the meat that Marie did not want to eat. They gave him just enough food to sustain his life long enough to complete their transaction. Pino further showed his capacity for evil when he confronted his son and blackmailed him into not visiting Filippo again. “…swear that you will not go back there…swear on your fathers head…if you go back….these people will kill him and it will be your fault” It was harsh of Pino to endowed such a heavy weight upon a nine year old child’s shoulder. Apart from this, Pino also tried to buy Michele’s silence buy purchasing a new red bike for him. Pino’s naïve thinking destroyed Michele’s innocence. He has mentally and physically harmed both his son and Filippo. He had betrayed Michele when he did not stand up again Sergio “…felt like I had been stabbed on the side…papa was the boss of Aqua Traverse” and then showed Michele his capability to harm when he said “Two ears…

Marcello’s motives display how he ‘violates reality’. He must tend to societal needs, rather than his own. He attempts to convince himself that he is content with reality. He becomes so engrossed in this image, he never really truly persuades what he desires. Throughout the film, Marcello constantly views scenes from behind windows which displaces him from the reality. Marcello views the other children running and laughing, while Lino chauffeurs him. Lino drives him from his childhood and explores his sexuality. When Anna runs toward the car, while Quadri is being killed, Marcello just stares at Anna. He always is disconnected from reality. Marcello is the epitome of violating reality; he represses himself to conform to the status quo. He…

In the novel Michelle journeys from a joyful innocent child into a perceptive and wiser youth. Initially we view Michelle as a child who is very compassionate, willing to "do the forfeit" for Barbara to exempt her from Skull's cruelty. As the story progresses qualities namely courage and loyalty surface in Michelle. These two qualities are most noticeable when he states, "I'm going to see Fillipo… Who's Fillipo? He's a friend of mine". Michelle's actions show and justify a belief that he has in a sense "lost his innocence". Michelle also shows maturity when he acknowledges that his father may not be a loving man, stating, "Papa was the bogeyman. By day he was good, by night he was bad". He realises that the adults are cruel and is astounded when he notices his father stating "two ears we'll cut off. Two!". Michelle loses his innocence after witnessing the cruelty displayed by the adults as well as being tested by the notions of loyalty and betrayal.…

1978 Southern Italy is where our story takes place; in particular a small village named Aqua Traverse is where we meet our protagonist Michele for the first time. Michele is a relatively quiet nine year old boy, however his ethics and compassion are far beyond his age. Indeed he shows much more courage and convictions in his morals than many of the adults in the story who are too blinded by lust for money and hope for a way out of Aqua Traverse to care much for morality. Michele demonstrates his understanding of right and wrong when describing Barbara’s forfeit, where Skull had ordered her to unbutton her shirt and show the group her breasts. “I felt bad as about it, the forfeit wasn’t fair.” Although he disagreed with the forfeit Michele did not speak up due to his own fear of Skull. What is important however is that he considered the right and wrong thing to do, even saying “I didn’t like my sister being there”. His protectiveness of his sister is the first sign of his wholesomeness and compassion, even in the face of bad acts.…
