How Did Islam Spread Following the Death of Muhammad? What Were Some of the Challenges That the Muslims Faced and How Did They Deal with Them? Essay Example
The creation of Islam came about from the prophet Muhammad. Islam means submission to G-d, otherwise known as Allah to the Islamic people. Muhammad was someone who knew how to capture the attention of the people and did so very successfully. He spoke with passion and brought together the Arabian tribes who had been fighting for many years. Once united, Muhammad influenced these tribes to convert to Islam. Immediately following his death, the tribes who were once united broke apart and began fighting the way they had been before Muhammad came into place. After the death of Muhammad, it was the caliph’s job to continue spreading Islam throughout the world. Caliph literally means the deputy to God’s messenger. The first caliph, Abu Bakr, Muhammad’s best friend, father-in-law, and one of the first people to convert to Islam, stopped the fighting and the Islamic tribes were once again reunited. Although there was no comparison, Abu Bakr was influential enough to save the Islamic tribe from completely falling apart after Muhammad’s death. He made people realize that Muhammad was not only preaching the power and truth of G-d, but that Muhammad himself was only the messenger of G-d. However people stopped focusing on G-d and only believed in Muhammad, which was a big problem. Abu Bakr was the caliph from 632-634 when he died during a war brief to reunite the Muslims took place. Following the death of Abu Bakr, Umar, a general in the war, took Abu Bakr’s place and ruled for ten years (634-644). While on his deathbed, Abu Bakr had chosen Umar to be the new caliph. Umar was the most influential caliph and was the real founder of the early Muslim Empire. His commanded his Arab armies to go into North Africa. There they succeeded in conquering Egypt by 642. During that time, he also invaded Persia and the Byzantine territory in the eastern Mediterranean. Umar enforced religious tolerance in the new lands, which was how he spread Islamic beliefs to the people who lived in

Muhammad is the central figure of Islam instead.. He is known to Muslims as the "Holy Prophet", almost all of whom consider him to be the last prophet sent by God to mankind to restore Islam. Islam was founded on the teachings of the Prophet Muhammad as an expression of surrender to the will of Allah, the creator and Sustainer of the world. Muhammad was born in Mecca. He was raised by his uncle and he became a successful merchant. Later, he married Khadijah. In his forties, he began to retire to meditate in a cave on Mount Hira, just outside Mecca, where the first of the great events of Islam took place. One day, as he was sitting in the cave, he heard a voice, later identified as that of the Angel Gabriel, which ordered him to “proclaim”. Muhammad spent the next three years seeking truth for himself, he shared that the faith in Allah was the only way to paradise. He also converted others to this new faith. Muhammad claimed he was a prophet and started degrading the pagan faiths of the vast majority of the Macon pilgrims, the town elders realized it was bad. One night, they entered his home to stab him, but he escaped to Yathrib. He used military forces to spread his faith, he defeated the soldiers of Mecca In 630 C.E., Muhammad entered Mecca and destroyed the idols of Kaaba, declaring once and for all that only one god-allah-would be allowed within the city’s borders. The Shi’a and Sunni religions came about for various reasons; beginning with the birth of the leader Muhammad in 570. Muhammad founded the religion Muslim (Islam) in 610 and throughout his life began preaching Islam in 613 and conquered Mecca in 630. Following Muhammad’s death in 632, Abu Bakr and Ali are nominated to serve in Muhammad’s position. Abu Bakr is selected but the minority that voted for Ali became known as Shiat Ali. In 656, Abu Bakr was assassinated making Ali the 4th caliph thus creating the spilt beliefs in the Muslim religion. The group of Ali supporters believe Ali should be known as the 4th caliph, while Abu Bakr, Umar, and Uthman are the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd. On the other hand the Shi’a Muslims believe Ali is the 1st since the caliphate should only be someone of direct descendant of Muhammad.…
