Healthy Eating Plan Comparison Essay Example
Making the decision to change the lifestyle I was following, 11 weeks ago, was the most excellent decision made throughout my entire life. Losing my father to diabetes was an eye opener. The suffering that they go through is not something desirable. Not eating fast foods continues to be the regimen to follow. Eating every three hours and eating the recommended amounts of food not only is healthy, but it contributes to the well being in the inside and outside of the body. MyPyramid recommended for me to stay within 1800 calories to reach and maintain a healthy weight. Keeping a journal has allowed me to keep track of the changes that need to be implemented to stay on track with the healthy plan. The journal has allowed for me to notice what types of food make me feel energetic and what makes me feel tired and if I need to make any changes to the diet. I have not made any drastic changes to my diet since I started my nutritional education at Axia College, reason being I had been practicing the change in eating habits for three weeks prior to the class commencing. I did notice I keep track of what I eat which makes life much simpler and well organized. When making food choices I am more aware of the size portions needed to maintain healthy. Eating healthy will not provide immortality but it sure can prevent us from getting many chronic deseases. Eating too much protein can cause our urine to dispose the calcium in our bodies and this is what can cause osteoporosis in many women, this is something I was not aware of (Tsang, 2007). Having too much of a nutrient can be counterproductive; therefore keeping a journal can be very helpful in keeping track of the daily consumptions. Continuing to eat from the five groups; grains, vegetables, fruits, milk and meat and beans provides a wide range of foods to select and include in the daily menu. This allows for variety without getting tired of the same food consumption. Processed foods are not a part of the list for

Throughout the course of the last nine weeks, my eyes have been opened to an entirely new world full of nutritional and exercising information. It is rough being a thirty-three year old husband and father, with an eye on trying to remain on this planet for as long as humanly possible. As parents, we all have goals we want to achieve. The usual suspects include seeing your children graduate high school and then college, walking your daughter down the aisle of her wedding, and being able to retire and continue to live a healthy and happy life. What I have come to realize through this nutritional and exercising information is that in order to accomplish this goal, there are certain aspects of my life that I need to change. I am not a particularly healthy eater. I do not exercise regularly. I mostly do what I can with the time I have available. I suspect this problem plagues many men across this country and around the world. In my state, the obesity rate is close to 30% and it continues to trend upward (Centers for Disease Control, 2011). Without a drastic change in lifestyle, I am simply adding to the statistics. The knowledge I have gained in this course has led me to believe that this is simply unacceptable. Something has to change, and I have a plan to make that happen.…

One should stay away from consuming fast food more than twice a week. A person must know exactly how many calories he/she should be eating in one single day. Not only does one need to worry about the amount of calories one consumes but also the difference between calories. A person should understand the fact that good nutrition is not only about the numbers but also the nutrients, therefore, a person should make the calories they consume count. For example, one can eat something that has the same amount of calories, however, one will store more of the calories as fat than the other will because of the difference between whole foods and processed foods.…

Also, these articles proved that the two behaviors I wanted to change go hand in hand with one another. When I first started this project, I noticed I wasn’t taking it as seriously become change doesn’t happen overnight. However, about two days after vowing to start, I began meal prepping to eat when there is down time between my classes. These meals or snacks consisted on whole apples, fruit salads, home cooked rice and chicken, and occasionally a whole-wheat sandwich. Although, there were somedays I forgot to pack my lunches which forced me to drink 16 oz of water to curve my cravings. Moreover, on days I failed to pack my lunch and water plagued a huge set back in my progress. During these times, I took a couple trips to In N Out and other fast food joints. Even though I knew how tired and heavy I would feel after eating a greasy meal, it became a much easier routine. As time went on and I ran into the same mishap, I found myself proudly driving past fast food restaurants and overjoyed when purchasing a fresh Sprouts vegetable salad or protein…

The Atkins’ diet helps in weight loss and increases health benefits. It is based on lowering of carbohydrate intake to increase metabolism and body efficiency. This diet usually causes the body to use adipose tissue, or fat, for energy instead of the alternative glucose. If the dieter follows through with the diet with daily exercise, the person should experience steady weight loss. Some low-fat diets have taken the stand against the low-carbohydrate claim. It expresses that followers of low- fat diet lose fat quicker than people who follow the Atkins’ diet (Oaklander). Although this can conflict with the low- carbohydrate diet, the Atkins’ diet works with the body for weight loss, lowers health issues in all aspects of the body, and decreases…

I have learned throughout this course thus far that an individual’s diet can have great impacts on how well their body is functioning both mentally and physically. The saying, “you are what we eat”, can now practically be proven, especially when considering that the foods that are being consumed into our body’s play a vital role to our energy, calorie, and nutrient needs. With that said, not all the foods that we choose to eat are said to be the right choices or even healthy for our bodies. In addition, this would be the main reason that eating a well balanced diet that includes variety, balance, and…

    My Fitness Pal Essay

    • 493 Words
    • 2 Pages

Throughout the semester I have been recording my eating habits on my fitness pal. I knew before I even started using my fitness pal that my eating habits were not good and to be healthy I needed to stop eating food that was so bad for me. Even though it took me over half the semester to realize that, I now can say I am on a healthier track in life and could not be happier. Throughout this process I have learned what foods are healthier to eat and what foods are really bad for you. When I first started using my fitness pal I was eating fast food literally everyday because it was so easy and convenient for me to get between my classes. Foods such as hamburgers and chicken were what I was consuming everyday. I never cared about how many calories I was taking in. As a result from eating fast food everyday I felt tired all the time. Not only did I feel tired all the time, I was gaining weight, which is never a good thing. The more calories I was taking in, the more weight I was gaining. After I realized how bad the food was that I was taking into my body I decided to put a stop to it. I no longer eat fast food and I try to eat as healthy as I possibly can. Now I eat yogurt, salad, and subs a lot. I eat those things because they are no where near as bad for you as fast food is. Before my fitness pal I never worked out because I was too lazy to but that has also changed. Not only do I eat healthy now, I workout everyday. I am so glad that I have decided to make these changes in my lifestyle because I have started losing weight. Not only do I look better, but I feel so much better. I have a lot more energy throughout the day. My fitness pal really has helped me. It opened my eyes into a whole new direction of my life that I never thought was possible. I was never motivated to make myself better until I realized just what I was putting into my body with all that greasy fast food. I think this is…
