Fried Green Tomatoes - The Movie
Fried Green Tomatoes Fried Green Tomatoes has always been portrayed as a “woman’s” novel, but it really a story about true friendship. The plot encompasses many issues that face the people of the 1920’s and 1930’s including the issue of racism, before the time of Martin Luther King Jr. and the Civil Rights Movement. It includes death, abuse, murder, and even menopause. However, the main plot tells the story of two women, Idgie Threadgoode and Ruth Jamison, and the trials and tribulations of their life. Idgie and Ruth are business partners, best friends, and if you have read the book then in the eyes of many, lesbians. We do not meet Idgie until she is nearing the end of her early childhood and reaching the stage known as the middle childhood. Idgie is different, a tomboy to the extreme and her family wholeheartedly accepts it. The most accepting is her brother, Buddy, her very first best friend. Idgie experiences a terrible heartbreak during her young developmental stage. She, along with Ruth witness Buddy’s tragic death. This will forever change Idgie, as she becomes even more rebellious and revolutionary. A example of her mischievous ways was when she can road past the church during a sermon and compared the preacher to a snake. The next stage that greatly influences Idgie’s life is when Ruth is asked to come and stay at Idgie’s home by her mother. Idgie is cautious and reluctant to Ruth in the beginning. Idgie blames her for Buddy’s death and tragedy was all she saw when she saw Ruth. Idgie taunts Ruth’s proper ways by incessantly challenging her to a battle of the wills. The moment of truth comes when Idgie dares Ruth to jump off a moving train. This was a test and Ruth passed with flying colors. Idgie had met her match and the viewer sees their relationship change. The bond that forms between these two women represents pure friendship, but also raises the issue of lesbianism. Their relationship depicts a strong and

The Notebook is one of my favorite love movies of all time. The reason I love this movie so much is because that main characters Noah and Allie go through so many trials and finally end up together in the end. This movie I feel shows me how strong their love for each other really was and I now feel as if it is meant to be it will always find a way. Looking at the movie as a reference to get a better understanding of how lifespan development works, I realized that most of the trials that Noah and Allie went though were part of stages of development. The theory of stages of development was created by Erik Erikson, he believes that we go though certain stages in our life and if we do not get passed them properly we will end up with underdeveloped skills in our lives. The Notebook has many different stages that the main characters go though such as, stage eight, integrity vs. despair, stage five, identity vs. identity confusion, and stage six, intimacy vs. isolation.…

Fried Green Tomatoes is the story of the town of Whistle Stop, Alabama. Most of the story centers on Ruth Jamison and Idgie Threadgoode, a pair of women who changed the lives of everyone in their town. The story is told both in the present, 1920s-40s, when the events occurred, and in the past, while Ninny Threadgoode relives those events by retelling them to her friend, Evelyn Crouch, in the 1980’s.…

Throughout the many genres of filming, D.W Griffiths’ (David Llewelyn Wark) film, Intolerance (1916) encouraged the beginning of a unique genre of filming; Art House. Art house film’s individuality of filming is targeted at a smaller market audience. Unlike Hollywood cinema, Art house uses a unique strategy of capturing the audience by crossing boundaries and making the basis of the storylines harder to predict, leaving the audience puzzled throughout, and usually after the film has ended. The tale of Joel and Clementine in the film Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind shows the director Michael Gondry’s ability to withhold the events of a unique romance and shape it into a genre of Art house through its representations and languages.…

The main character Ruth McBride Jordan came of age during the 1940’s. American History tells us that during the 1940’s Jewish people were fleeing to America from Hitler and the Holocaust. World war II was also taking place and with the men leaving to go fight in the war women were needed to replace the men and get jobs. These historic events in American history are relevant to this story, because during this time frame, Ruth had to work at her Aunt’s leather factory in order to survive in New York on her own. At this point in her life, she was dating a African American man named Andrew Dennis McBride, and during these times if you were white and dated a black man you were now known as “one of them.” African Americans back then were minorities, and were given no respect.…

Fried Green Tomatoes is two stories in one, both of which ultimately work as well as they can, given what the film is trying to do. It should be noted, however, that the present-day scenes aren't as involving as those that take place in the 1930s. The structure is unusual, with the modern day scenes "framing" the flashbacks. Because the differences in the time periods are so marked, this may have not been the best way to handle the dual storylines. There are some awkward moments when the 1930s/90s parallelism seems to be forced.…

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (2004) was written by Charlie Kaufman, who worked on the story with the film's director Michel Gondry, and with Pierre Bismuth, a French performance artist. The idea started with Bismuth, who, according to Kaufman, mailed a note to Gondry and several other friends explaining that he'd had them erased from his memory, in order to see what their reactions would be.…

    The Green Mile

The book The Green Mile, written by Stephen King, is about a prison guard who works on death row of the Tennessee State Penitentiary. Paul Edgecomb has his work cut out for him every day with this job due to the behavior of the prisoners as well as the immaturity of one of his guards, Percy Wetmore. Throughout the book, Paul experiences many things, good and bad; however, when John Coffey arrives on the “E-Block” things change completely for Paul. John has a very different vibe to him than the other prisoners. He was accused of the murder and rape of two girls and sentenced to death for his actions. While in prison, John preforms many magical acts such as bringing a dead mouse back to life and curing Warden Hal Moores’ wife of cancer which makes Paul believe that John didn’t kill those two little girls. This, along with watching the prisoner’s actions every day, changed the way Paul viewed life and changed his faith. I really enjoyed reading this book. I was always eager to read on and see what happened next when reading.…
