They set the sale price of each flower at the purchase price plus 40%. Write and solve an equation to determine how many flowers they will need to sell to make a profit of \$500. Use complete sentences to explain what each number and variable in your equation represents. Write your solution in the context of the original problem. x(.50*.40)=500 In this equation x represents the number of flowers they need to sell to make a profit of \$500. The (.50*.40) represents the equation to find out the profit of each flower. The .50 is how much each flower cost them and the .40 represents the 40% mark up. The x is equal to 2,500.
2. Max was solving the equation below and isn’t sure if his answer is correct. Explain to Max how he can check his answer and then help him identify any errors he made. Provide the correct solution in your explanation.
To check your answer you can plug in what you got for x in the equation and see in both sides are equal. I went ahead and checked for you and let’s just say that x does not equal 1. You did the first step right, but when you got here (below) you added the three into the parenthesis correctly but I can’t say the same for the 4. I not quite sure what you did to get -1 but the correct equation after that step should have been 9x+18=28x-4.
