1. What is meant by diversity? Valuing and respecting differences in people, regardless of their gender, race, religion, socio-economic groups, age culture, values or beliefs. Although everyone in a group may appear the same or share the same beliefs, each person is unique and has their own qualities and values that will make them different from all others. I live in a small town in the Black Country which is in the West Midlands, it is a market town which can be traced back to pre-Medieval times and is mentioned in the Dooms Day Book. It is home to a diverse cultural and ethnic mix of people, there are areas of wealth and sadly areas which suffer from poverty. The local Council is carrying out a regeneration programme to benefit the areas which have less advantages. There is considerable unemployment in the area, also a high number of retired people.
