E-Ink: Top Development Priorities
* Assuming E-Ink gets the money it needs to stay alive, what would be your top development priorities if if you were the CEO? * Which markets should it attack? And which business model should it adopt?

Considering that E-Ink would get the necessary money to stay alive, the main and most importat point that should require a very deep analysis would be in what type of products and in what kind of target markets would the company operate in the future, in order, to achieve the final goal of launching the radio paper ($80 billion market).

Pressuposing that in the near future, E-Ink could finally launch a successful IPO operation which would translate into bigger amount of money available for investments, it would be an interesting perspetive in analyzing how could E-Ink stop being Sony´s main supplier in the eBooks and becoming its competitor.

After Philips quiting the display manufactoring businesses, a Taiwan company started making this transition. Since we have the optimal film know how produced by E-Ink and the dispplay module provided by the Taiwan company, it would just be necessary a significant investment in the device integration segment to complete the supply chain and selling the product directly to the customers without Sony´s participation .
From one side, we have a significant investment that had to be made in the device integration segment that would involve several costs associated with R&D, personnel costs, a new production fabric and marketing costs to promote the new product. But on the side, we have the absorption of the high margins that Sony was practicing on the selling of the eBooks that can compensate the high investment made in the device integration.

The market focus must keep the company on its technology path toward radio paper.

Raise Cash Flows to enhance shareholders value and reduce cash burn rate.

The company´s technical path to reach the radio paper ($80 billion market) would have to firstly go through

    Daniel Okrent has been in the publishing industry his whole career. He is a published author and has served as an editor for Time, Life, and the New York Times. In a 1999 lecture to students attending Columbia University’s School of Journalism, Okrent predicts, “I believe they (news papers, magazines, and books), and all forms of print are dead” (Okrent 578). A little harsh, wouldn’t you agree? But fear not, he then goes on to describe how even though the death of print is inevitable, it really doesn’t make a difference because it is the words, sentences, and paragraphs in those forms of print that are important. Now, the majority of the reading I take in comes from online sources. I probably manage to read an average of about one book every two years. This amount is hardly anything to brag about. However, I do find myself viewing specialized topics online that I would probably have had to read a book to gain knowledge on if the online sources weren’t so easily accessible. I also subscribe to a few print magazines that I have interest in. Looking at the literature landscape today, Okrent’s predictions on the future of the print industry seem to be eerily accurate. However, a bit of wishful thinking seems to come through in his claims that “ . . . the words and pictures and ideas and images and notions and substance that we produce is what matters – and not the vessel they arrive in” (Okrent 580). Do the vessels matter? Can quality writing and accurate information find its way through the unfiltered sewage of unchecked claims, shock bloggers, and desperately aggressive advertising?…

    Dell Corporation should continue with a cost-based strategy as this gives them competitive advantage. The opportunities section of the SWOT analysis highlights that Dell should formulate and implement a growth strategy by developing innovations for mobile portable devices, specifically a wider range of tablets for individual consumers, rather than businesses. This should be achieved through external recruiting of experienced innovative teams such as Nook. This would be a successful way for Dell to develop their business and market share because the market for tablets is growing exponentially. Although Dell’s opportunity analysis shows that they could expand their customer base by selling indirectly, the strengths of the direct model already implemented outweigh the possibility of this. However, before strengthening Dell’s presence in any emerging markets they must ensure their organisation implements a comprehensive SWOT analysis and employs any other analytical tools (such as PEST and Porter’s 5 forces) to ensure this is viable at the time, and how to go about it. This will prevent wasted time and money and will allow Dell to recognize the threats to their success as they enter into the new industry. This is fundamental. Situational analysis also demonstrates that developing a smartphone is an opportunity in the industry as the smartphone market is growing. However, it is not viable for Dell to consider re-developing their smartphone offerings, as this was unsuccessful for the company in the past (Rotman Epps, 2013).
