edocs, Inc. Carlos Pero 3/3/04 edocs is an Internet company that is looking for venture capital to take their product to market. With friends and family financing, they were able to complete the first stage of product development; a worthy accomplishment considering many business plans typically need a seed round to get that far. Unfortunately, it seems the local venture capital market has been uninterested in them or the opportunity. By working their network of contacts, they were lucky to gain the interest of Jim Moran, and executive in the industry, who then arranged a meeting with Jonathan Guerster at Charles River Ventures. Guerster was already looking for the right bill presentment company to invest in. With Jim Moran pledging to join edocs, Guerster viewed this as a material event and fast-tracked the due diligence process, meaning he was very interested and perhaps eager to now invest in this company.

The People The two original founders, Kevin Laracey and Kris Canekeratne, did well for themselves so far. They should be commended for securing the original resources necessary to develop the first release of the product. The obviously had the interest, desire, and skills to find the market opportunity and initially execute on it by developing the product, and even securing alliances with CheckFree and CyberCash. When Kevin Laracey met Jim Moran in person at just the right moment, Kevin was continuing to develop business for edocs. But his background was a mix of

technical and marketing. So not only would Moran bring the first interested investor to the table, he also would add significant industry experience with an emphasis on sales and true business development. Besides the members of the company, it is important in this case to examine the people in the venture capital firm. Charles River Ventures focused on high-potential startups in the communications, software, and information services industries, so certainly they were a good match for edocs.

Newco’s management team has diverse experiences, with extensive experience in fields such as venture capital, information technology, investment banking, database development, design, and Internet applications. The management team also has strong ties to the financial industry. The connections and experiences of Newco’s management team will help to market their product to the financial corporations. One of the main client targets of the product is investment banks and financial corporations; therefore the management team’s experience in the investment banking field can help market and guide the product for successful entry into that market. Among the outside directors is a PhD holder of economics, as well as, a former lawyer from the university of Chicago that has investment banking experience as well. Both of these outside directors will be able to provide a unique perspective to the management team. On the downside, neither the president nor the founders are technically experienced in the IT field, rather most of their experience is within the financial industry, which would be a weakness to the management team considering that their product is highly technical.…

Neither of them have ever owned and ran a business of their own, and they have no knowledge of the elecotro-mechanical component market. They need to bring someone in who had experience in this market to help them appropriately make a business model. They did a decent job of marshaling their resources. In the novel To Kill a Mockingbird, Mayella Ewell appears to be evil but people argue whether she is really an evil character or she is just a character who has no choice but to do evil things. Although Mayella is not present throughout the entire novel, the majority of her personality and life is revealed to the reader in the courtroom where she condemns a good-natured, innocent black man to his death. Tom Robinson is accused of raping and beating Miss Ewell because Mayella does not have the courage to admit to her actions of trying to seduce a black man or the courage to speak the truth against her father’s wishes. And because of what she did, Mayella Ewell is an evil character because she is cold-hearted, and she ruined and destroyed Tom Robinson’s life.…

The company grew at such a rate that the co-founders Ernst and Kasja simply could not cope with it. Young as the founders were, their only discernible skills appeared to be in forging grand ideas and fundraising. Unfortunately, with the economy being what it was at this time many companies invested in internet ventures with the hope of a quick dollar. Under these circumstances the downfall of the company was pretty much a foregone conclusion, although it is tempting to think about the many 'what if? ' scenarios it presents in our minds.…

During the 1970s a breakthrough emerged that was almost lost among other important inventions. Xerox, during this time, was a power house of innovation, many aspects of the modern computer; the mouse, laser printers, Ethernet, and color graphics were all founded. In 1974 an employee of Xerox, Nicholas K. Sheridon invented the basis for modern electronic paper technology, the Gyricon. The Gyricon has many of the same properties as paper; it is flexible, contains an image, but it can also by erased and rewritten thousands of times. In the nineties, as the personal computer became more popular more paper was being consumed. This was caused by the difficulty in reading lengthy documents on the computers’ screens. It was easier to print the document, read it, and then discard it. This introduced the need for a paper like display that would not in fact waste any paper. The earlier invention of the Gyricon was a good candidate for the much needed electronic paper. Though it has been almost forty years since the invention of e-paper, it is just now becoming popular. Still today e-paper isn’t perfect and is still being developed. Since it is technology it isn’t sufficiently paper like. Paper, no matter how long you look at it will never run out of power, a struggle in the production of e-paper was finding a way to make it slim, flexible, and capable of storing readable images without power consumption. Other factors that apply to making e-paper are making sure it is highly readable in ambient light, has high whiteness, good resolution, and good contrast. Electronic paper has to be all this, while also being cheap if it is to be a good alternative to actual paper. Great progress has been made in the field of e-paper. Many companies including; IBM, Sony, Hewlett-Packard, and Phillips are all continuing to develop electronic paper technology. Some applications for e-paper include watches, e-books, newspapers, and mobile phones. In 2004 Sony released the first e-book reader…

Many people take public transport. There are some reasons on why it should and should not be free. Some reasons on why it should be free include: everyone can have access to transport and when there is an emergency people can easily use public transport without its fee .There would also be less traffic as more people would be using public transport which would also decrease pollution within the air and reduce traffic noise. The reasons on why it should not be free are: the Government will have to pay for the transports to operate which would decrease their chance on funding things such as Health Care and Education. Crowding may also happen inside the transports and the more people using public transport means more transport vehicles would have to be used and some could be older and dirtier than others.…
