‘Under The Bridge’ is a relatively slow song with lots of chord progressions. When it was released, on their 1991 album ‘Blood Sugar Sex Magik’, it sent the band into mainstream success. This led to the department of their guitarist, John Frusciante, who couldn’t cope with the fame and spiralled into a serious heroin addiction. However, he would later return to join the band in 1998 to work on the album ‘Californication’. The song remains to be a landmark song for the band.…
Beneatha Younger, an important character in A Raisin In The Sun , values good people. She does not think of herself as black, she thinks of herself as an American human. She knows George Murchison and Mama and Ruth want tem to get married. He's a black American as well, but sees absolutely no reason to honor their African heritage. George sees himself as an American first and foremost and thinks that blacks who spend a lot of time worrying about Africa are wasting their time. Unsurprisingly, Beneatha seems to not be into George at all. Then after a strange turn of events she starts to love Joeseph Asagai and wants to learn about Africa.…

The Lorax, a famous book written by Dr. Seuss and published in 1972, was a controversial story, which was later made into a film, portraying a greedy corporate man who endangers the environment due to his selfish needs. Once reading or seeing the Lorax, one may make a connection to the Tragedy of the Commons, which is when individuals act on meeting their own needs while hurting limited resources. For example, in the Lorax the greedy corporate man, known as the Once-ler, discovers truffala trees, which he had seek for his entire life, and discovers that by chopping down these trees he can make thneeds, which are items that everyone needs, and make a profit. Once the Once-ler gets a taste of the money, he continues to harm the environment and continues to chop down trees without replacing them or thinking of the long term consequences. The Once-ler exploits the land so much that he destroys all of the truffula trees and this leads to all the animals: brown barbaloot bears, swomme swans and humming fish, migrating to land where potent water, clean air, and food was available.…
Interestingly, the author shifts from a strong tone of anger and hatred to a more loving attitude toward the white society. He believes that no matter what, the whites will not accept the Negro. However, if you feed them love, the whites will eventually grow to respect the blacks. In section two, the author dives deep into religion. He goes in depth about Christianity and how it has driven him to try and accept the whites. He says how nothing can bring out his joy and passion like church life does. Through Baldwin’s Christian morals, he believes that his theory of the “Negro Problem” can be transcended by compassion and love. In this letter, Baldwin is addressing all the white Americans who are in denial of their actions of racism. He believes that the only way of ending the “Negro Problem” is through drastic change and peace. In section two, Baldwin heavily addresses the leader of The Nation of Islam, Elijah Muhammad. Elijah Muhammad has a strong hatred toward the white community. He says how black people are the creation of Allah, whereas the white people are the creations of the devil, and are therefore the devils themselves. Muhammad believes that there will come a time when the black Americans are able to claim their destiny and eliminate the white community from the earth. In Stokely Carmichael’s article Black Power, he discusses why the black community doesn’t receive the respect it deserves and what this notion of black power really is. “Black power can be clearly defined for those who do not attach the fears of white America to their questions about it” (pg. 307). He also says how the blacks had to work for power, because America does not function by morality, love, and nonviolence, but by power. From this, we can understand that in order for blacks to be accepted as equal, a new generation needs to be born, as Carmichael inquires on pg. 308. No matter what they do in society, no matter how hard they work,…
In Baldwin’s Autobiographical Notes, the first two paragraphs give the bare bones of his early life. He grew up in poverty and started to quickly developed an interest in reading and writing. He also discusses the effect of being born African American on him as a writer and as a person. Baldwin writes that the things which help cannot be divorced from each other. Baldwin demonstrates through his life story that the negro problem can be solved. It shows the readers that people can’t change everything but we can’t change anything until we try to change it.…

While communicating with people of different nationalities and cultures, I find that although we are basically the same as people, our traditions, upbringing and mindset are different. The optimistic people share the same views and ideas but the people who have issues dealing with life; have mixed ideas and thoughts of society. When it’s all over, no matter what culture I’m communicating with, I find that I can help them as well as they can help me with understanding challenges that plague us a whole today.…
The topics chosen for discussion throughout my essay reflect the history of my interactions with individuals from different cultures and societies that have so greatly impacted my life, and in addition, have helped shape my personality to make me the person I am today. The audiences I imagined while writing this essay could consist of almost anyone who wants to read it; however, more specifically, our college writing class. The audiences imagined helped influenced the form and material of my essay as it allowed me to talk about the relationships established between my friends and the knowledge I gained from spending time in multi-cultured communities. In addition, the texts presented from Eady and Anzaldua helped me analyze my social life and how forming connections and alliances are vital, despite the differences that separate us as individuals. My cultural position including the places I have lived in have also had a great impact on my personality and have furthermore assisted me in the understanding of the readings by Anzaldua and Eady. Doing so has broadened my vision on how I have socially developed as a person, and the connections that I share between the communities I “belong” in.…

The book bridges not walls edited by Stewart talks a lot on having dialogues with people especially in its eleventh chapter. Two articles in chapter eleven caught my attention because they all talk about ‘dialogues’. Dialogue is an important thing in the societies to do in order for people to understand and trust each other in order to stop hate. These article reviews discuss how black women talk with white women and westerners talk with Muslims though there is still lack of dialogues.…
