Hunters In The Snow – Tub

Tub from the short story Hunters In The Snow is physically how his name makes him sound. He is short and fat. In the story, Kenny describes his appearance as looking like “A beach ball with a hat on”. That statement shows that he is short and round, and not just allover huge. The beginning of the story also tells how he is overweight by telling about multiple sandwiches and cookies that he kept hidden in his pockets for the hunting trip, showing that he eats a lot. He is also out of shape, because while he, Frank and Kenny are walking through the snow, he falls behind pretty quickly because he runs out of breath.
Tub is not very intelligent. He's a follower, and he is the character in the story that the other characters mess with, mainly Kenny. Tub basically just went along with anything Frank told him because he didn't really think much for himself. In the beginning of the story is the first time Kenny messes with Tub, pretending he is going to run him over with the truck. Tub tries to yell at Kenny, but as soon as Frank tells them to stop Tub has nothing more to say. Kenny and Frank also don't help Tub while going through fences, they could have held them for him but instead let him do it all himself as he fell behind.
Tub does care what Frank and Kenny think of him. That shows when he is hiding his food from them, and pretending he is on a diet. When they call him fat, he gets angry and says he's trying but it's not his fault. He doesn't want them to think he can't keep a diet.
Tub has a better relationship with Frank than he does with Kenny. He doesn't always understand Kenny's jokes. That shows when Kenny says he hates Tub and Tub shoots him, thinking he was about to get shot. Tub's relationship with Frank was also a longer one, and probably before Kenny ever was around. Tub tells Frank how he use to stick up for him, and it seems like it has stopped since Kenny was around. After Kenny is shot, Frank and

Within the clips, when the estranged squid Durwood returns to Appalachia for a family visit, his wife tells the children to remember “good touch, bad touch” before they get out of the car. During this visit, the granny squid calls the children who are part squid, part human, half-breeds. The Appalachian squids could not understand the air conditioning in the car, and accused the city folk of “probably paying for water, too.” The older squid, Early, displays a perverse attitude toward the white woman, groping her and using disrespectful language. He also indicates to the out of towners that he is broke and needs a hand out, and admits the money will go toward his addiction. He is surprised that the visitors…

The overall structure and plot of the story plays a part in how Wolff viewed his own life within the characters. It opens with a simple yet intriguing statement: "Tub had been waiting for an hour in the falling snow" (Wolff 1). Immediately, this hook does its job drawing the reader into the story and making him wonder what is going on. In the same paragraph we find that Tub is walking down the street, carrying a rifle and seemingly, shooting the breeze. But then a car comes from nowhere, nearly killing Tub and forcing him to leap off the roadside. Inside the truck, Tub's friends, Kenny and Frank, wait laughing at the apparent "joke" that they had just played. Tub doesn't seem quite as amused, stating, "You could've killed me!" (Wolff 5). Then, the three friends begin to make their way towards the woods to go hunting for…

Tobias Wolff’s “Hunters in the Snow” centers on the actions and personalities of Kenny, Frank and Tub as they embark on a hunting trip during the winter. Each character faces problems (in character or otherwise) which they attempt to cover up through deception – the central theme in this short story – in order to accept their respective actions. The consequences of these cover ups profoundly change the power of each character over another. Furthermore, the characters don’t realize how their lies influence others around them.…

In the story “Snow Treasure” there was a situation when morality came into play. One of the German soldiers well at least they thought he was a german soldier who went by the name Jan Lasek. He was captured by Peters’s uncle Victor and his pal Rolls. The captive pleaded that they take him to America with him he told them that he wasn't a German spy but in fact Polish. He explained to them that the germans came into his country and cause nothing but misery they destroyed their homes stole their food and valuables and even killed many civilians. He also explained that when he was on his way to America and he was captured by what seem to be the police but was actually German spies portraying police. They kept him alive because they needed someone to translate for them because he studied languages. He was telling victor all he want to do is go to America and he would never side with the Germans after what they did with his people. Victor had to make the decision on weather if Jan Lasek was telling the truth and if he was should he keep him hidden on the boat. Victor decided that he would keep Jan on the boat despite the fact that the Germans would be looking for him because he’s a polish captive.…

“Hunters in the Snow” by Tobias Wolff starts out Tub waiting for his friends to pick him up. The suspense starts with rising action by his friends being over an hour late. I chose “Hunters in the Snow to be the more suspense than “The Cask of the Amontillado.” Hunters keeps the reader on edge by displaying three different personalities. Confrontation due to human nature. The reader may question whether they are going to show up at all. This is an example of rising action. When Frank and Kenny show up they most run over Tub. Frank and Kenny both team up against Tub. The friends are going hunting together and with the two against the other one it builds suspense of what will happen in the woods. While hunting, Kenny lets out he has a secret with Frank, Tub wants to know what the secret is. Kenny is obnoxious and dangerous with the rifle. He shoots the pole for no reason other than hating it, then he shoots the dog, and then aims the gun at Tub. This is leading to climax of the story. The reader may wonder if Tub is going to die at this point in the story and his friends leave him there to be found, or is Tub going to defend himself and shoot Kenny. Could Frank and Tub leave wounded Kenny or bury him? This is another rising action in the climax. The three friends tell the owner of the land that the dog has been shot. This is another example of suspense will the owner kill them for killing the dog or will he let them go? Kenny hasn’t told his friends the owner had asked him to shoot the dog, is how…

For me, there is nothing I enjoy more (almost) than reviewing indie films. I am one that seeks out those who could benefit from the extra promotion, and although it can be difficult to sometimes squeeze it into my schedule, I am happy to help when I can. And that is exactly how I feel with The Hunt. This is an independent film, and it just so happens that Kyle Smithers, director of this film, was kind enough to give me the chance to review it. And the fact that it stars Rick Ravanello, one of my favorite actors (and people, for that matter), makes this particular review even more gratifying.…

On the psychological standpoint, this story has almost everybody’s perception. People change according to time and situations. After Tub shot Kenny, Frank simultaneously changed his subordinate position from Kenny to Tub. He himself believed that favouring Tub would give him a chance to fill his loneliness. Frank was smarter and he took his decision according to time, however, the decision was perfect. Kenny, the first alpha person, had a secret of Frank’s, and Kenny was restricting Frank to stay with him in any situation or he would reveal the secret. On the other side, Tub was totally opposite and the situation was also in a favour of Tub. Kenny was shot and Frank was the only eyewitness, and with mutual understanding, Frank disclosed his secret to Tub and tried to get emotional support. After becoming the new alpha, Tub definitely chose supporting dogma get support.…

“A long day at the beach deserves some good ole’ pizza.” Kiyah cleans up the water and the broken glass off of the floor and sits down next to Mickey and asks “Hey Mick, what happened and where is Mario?”. When he tells her the story she gets upset and begins crying. She throws him outside and tells him to get lost. He is standing outside on the porch for a while hoping she didn’t mean it and she would let him back in. In about 10 minutes he begins to walk away because he realizes she isn’t going to change her mind about him, and he really does need to find another home. “Maybe I will find a family with no fish so I won’t have to go through this. Maybe they won’t put me out after forgetting to feed me”. Mickey says to himself as he is walking away. He keeps walking and never looks back, because he knows that there is no return. In the end, Mickey realizes that if he would have just been honest to Peaches from the start he would not have lost her as a friend. He also realizes that if he would have just talked to Mario and found out why Mario did not like him, none of this would have ever…
