BOOK OF JOSHUA
1/15/13
>Word of Wisdom: The book of Joshua, part of the Pentateuch: Moses has just been taken by the Father- in the closing of the book of Deuteronomy concerning Moses who picked Joshua- God, actually being the one picking him. (Deuteronomy 34:10-12 -> 10 And there arose not a prophet since in Israel like unto Moses, whom the Lord knew face to face 11 In all the signs and the wonders, which the Lord sent him to do in the land of Egypt to Pharaoh, and to all his servants, and to all his land, 12 And in all that mighty hand, and in all the great terror which Moses shewed in the sight of all Israel.) There would never be another Moses, the lawgiver, this is why he would be the one who shows up on the Mount of Transfiguration. Moses was a prophet, who chose Joshua (in Hebrew, name means ‘Jehovah’s savior’; in Greek it means ‘Jesus’). The book of Joshua is the first book amongst the former prophets. Joshua becomes a ‘type’ (with name meaning Jehovah’s Savior..and God sending a Savior, in Jesus Christ) with Moses who brought the Law- followed by Joshua being the ‘savior’.

Joshua Chapter 1
2- This is entering the Promised Land. Joshua was one of those who went over before (Kadish Boniet?) saying that the land is good. But because of those who doubted and were scared to enter, God caused them to wander in the wilderness for 40 years. Then He brings forth Joshua to lead them into the Promised Land.
3- God is basically saying, this land belongs to my children
4- Our Father set this aside for the children and Joshua would be the one to follow it through.
5- Do you understand that Christ said these same words to us (Hebrew 13). When you are a true believer, it doesn’t matter what goes on in this world as long as you use common sense to protect you and your people. You’re going to win, you’re going to be successful….God will see you through it, if you go by His letter, His word, when He is with us, Satan doesn’t stand a chance. But how many

I read the book of James and was astounded at how much I learned in such a short period of time. James encourages us to rejoice in Christ and to persevere. The main themes prevalent in this book which are wisdom, faith, trials, speech and wealth, all pertain to us today and we can use the information this book gives us to benefit from it. The book’s structure, purpose, characteristics, and history really helped teach me how to deal with the trails and temptations we as Christians face from day to day.…

Joshua spelled Yehoshua in Hebrew, meaning "Yahweh is salvation," and when translated into Greek is spelled Jesus. Born and raised in Egypt, Joshua is frequently referred to as "Joshua the son of Nun." His story begins when Moses, after leading the Israelites out of Egypt, appoints Joshua to be in charge of choosing and commanding those Israelite men who would be capable of protecting the Israelites against any hostile forces during their journey from Egypt to Canaan. This decision by Moses proved to be a wise choice, because not long after leaving Egypt the Israelites had to defend themselves against the Amalekites. Besides Aaron, Moses' brother, Joshua becomes the only other person that Moses depends on. Joshua accompanies Moses to the top of the Mt. Sinai to receive the Ten Commandments, becomes caretaker of the Tabernacle, is selected as one of 12 spies to go into Canaan and reports back to Moses that it would be safe to move into and establish them in Canaan.…

Joshua is explained as a carpenter, from Bethlehem. Mark 6:3 - Is he not the carpenter,* the son of Mary, and the brother of James and Joses and Judas and Simon? And are not his sisters here with us?” And they took offense at him. ("Scripture." Scripture. N.p., n.d. Web. 11 Dec. 2012). He repairs wooden objects and he fixes broken items, and makes toys for the little children. He is also described as a thoughtful and sharing man, who cares about others before himself. In the book it states how he broke a piece of bread, and handed it to a random person who he doesn’t know. Matthew 26:26-While they were eating, Jesus took bread, said the blessing, broke it, and giving it to his disciples said, “Take and eat; this is my body.” ("Scripture." Scripture. N.p., n.d. Moses upheld his duties throughout the book of Deuteronomy. It was disheartening that Moses was unable to go to the promised lands with the Israelites. It was also enlightening to watch him listen to God and accept his fate. Moses was a great prophet. He falls short at times, yet he was finally successful in bringing the Israelites to Canaan at the end of this chapter. His love for God prevailed.…

The first 39 books of the larger work called the Bible, is called the Old Testament. The Bible itself is arguably the best selling and most read book of all time, yet it’s well known to be quite challenging to read through and understand. The Old Testament portion of the Bible, notably the most difficult portion of the Bible for most to study and follow, yields 39 books from multiple authors, and spans over 4000 years of crucial world and church history. If that were not enough to take on, the Old Testament comes our way through multiple styles of authorship and formats, including but not limited to, books of history, law, proverbs, ethics, philosophy, treatises, dramas, songs, epics, biographies, and letters. There have been many books written and published to survey, explain, and/or bring to light the Old Testament, but none more helpful to me than the review subject of this paper, the work of Dr. Elmer L. Towns, entitled “A Journey Through the Old Testament”.…

Chapter 2 of Joshua details the story of Rahab the harlot. When God sent Joshua and the children of Israel across the Jordan River and into the land of Canaan to take possession of the land, the first order of business was to destroy the city of Jericho. It was one of the largest, most prosperous, and most thoroughly fortified cities in the land. But the city was cursed of God and marked for destruction. The sentence of death had been passed upon it forty years earlier (Ex. 23:27-28).…

In Walton’s Ancient Near Eastern Thought and the Old Testament, he writes, “ With no revelation . . . there was no way to know what pleased and what angered . . . This is the plight of those who live in a world without revelation. In the end, for all of their conscientious ritual, they did not know what deity wanted” (p. 145). Please post a 400-word response to Walton’s statement. Discuss the importance of revelation to God and the biblical writers. Seek to answer questions like “Was it important for God to reveal himself to mankind? If so, in what ways has God revealed himself? How important was revelation to the prophets who often used the phrase 'Thus says the Lord?'” While sources are not required, you may support your answer from the Bible, your textbooks, or other sources as you see fit./>…

Then, later in the novel, the miracles began to pile up. Joshua healed a blind girl and enabled her to see, as Jesus did. Joshua also revived the dead boy, Michael, after he had taken a deadly fall down a flight of stairs on the ship Joshua was on. Not only that, but Joshua also de-paralyzed the Cardinal after he had a stroke during Joshua's "trial" in Vatican City in Rome, Italy. I must say, the symbolisms were clear and strong.…
