The idea of what my future career may be often changed throughout my childhood, but I always knew one thing: I wanted to help people, and I wanted to be in the medical field. I have finally decided that I wanted to be a Registered Nurse and work in the Emergency Room of a large hospital. I have always admired my mother for her knowledge in her job. She is a RN as well, but she works in geriatrics. Working in the Emergency Room is completely different from geriatrics, but I feel that this is the department for me to work in. I can deal with problems well under stress, and I do not have a very weak stomach when it comes to seeing high trauma scenes. I want to learn anything and everything that I can about nursing, and become very knowledgeable with what I do. I have known from a very young age that I wanted to help people. I have been to the Emergency Room a couple of times throughout my life, and am always very thankful for the nurses that do what they can to help me. I would like to do the same, and receive the same appreciation. I want to contribute to society and help others when they need it most, and in a lot of Emergency Room cases, when their life depends on it. Throughout my life, I have never really had to want something that I couldn’t have. I have been blessed with a wonderful family who makes sure that I am satisfied with what I want or need. I am very fortunate, and I am thankful for what my family has done for me. One of my main goals in life is to remain content, be successful, and provide for my family in the future as mine has done for me. There is nothing more promising in life than complete happiness. Without it, you cannot be successful, or move forward in a positive and healthy way. You have to achieve a level of peace within yourself, and with your life. Material things don’t make a person who they are, but they remain important in our lifestyle. I hope that one day my career leaves me in a position that I can

During my career I have performed in many different roles, including patient care technician, new graduate nurse, staff nurse, triage nurse, preceptor and mentor for students and new employees, and even the role of charge nurse. The challenges of working in a high volume emergency department, caring for a diverse and complex patient population have been abundant. I like to believe that there are an array of factors and values that I have encompassed throughout my life that have played a role in forming my personal philosophy of nursing. I have always viewed myself as a kind and compassionate individual who enjoys helping others. As I have previously mentioned, my mother has been an oncology nurse for my entire life. I view her as one of, if not the main influential aspects in deciding upon my career. When I was younger I always enjoyed hearing her stories or reading her letters from patients about how helpful and caring she had been. She always came home with a smile on her face and would say that even after the most stressful day, knowing that she was able to make a difference in someone else’s life, is what kept her going. I have used that as a fuel in my own career. I made it one of…

There are many reasons why I would like to be an RN, and there are many reasons of why I should become an RN, ever since I was a child I have had the idea of being a nurse implanted in my head. Then as time went by other ideas came into play, like being a teacher or being a police officer, but being a nurse always stayed in my mind as a great career for me. I got this idea of being a nurse from my mother when I was a little kid, see my mom is a nurse, actually she is now the director of nursing at Bakersfield Heart. But when I was a kid, she went from floor nurse, to charge nurse, to director of her floor, to house supervisor, to assistant director, and now director. I can easily see her retiring as the CEO of this hospital. Now I do not know if I would want to do all of that, but I definitely see myself going from floor nurse to charge nurse, and maybe the director of the floor. The upper management just does not sound as fun to me.…

However, if I ever go back to do that, I would want to either do labor and delivery or pediatrics. I have had the privilege of witnessing the birth of one of my nieces and it was the most amazing experience. To be a nurse and being a part of that on a daily basis would be awesome. I also have an extra soft spot for children, which is why pediatrics would also be of interest to me. Life threatening diseases do not only affect adults. I feel that being able to help children would only be helping our future.…

As a child growing up I think I always wanted to work in the medical field, seeing my mother as a LPN. I also have always had a natural interest in the medical field because I like to watch a lot of ER and hospital shows. At first I didn’t really know what health career I wanted to pursue. I just knew that I liked being in the healthcare class and learning about the different health science careers and what they do. I think a medical office administration assistant would be a very good career for me because I am very helpful and can always be counted on when people need me. This is not my only career choice, it’s just the first I want to pursue. One year after graduation I will hopefully have my medical assisting certificate or at least be working on getting it. Around my five year mark I want to try to get a degree from a nursing school and become licensed as a registered nurse. After that I will try to specialize in pediatrics, so I can be a pediatric nurse. In ten years, I want to get my nurse practitioners license, so that I could work directly with a pediatrician.…

Each day we talk, she would describe what her patient did that day and how today was better than yesterday. Her many stories from the hospital inspired and convinced me that nursing is truly a very rewarding career.
