Arguments from Religious Experience Essay Example
'Argument's from religious experience are never convincing' discuss (35 Marks)

A religious Experience is an experience of the divine . Religious experience can be divided into many categories and it depends on what philosopher you agree with as to what categories you would decide on. But the main undisputed categories are; corporal experiences, which are experienced by a mass audience, vision experiences, which are when people see God, Hell or Heaven in some sort of semi-conscious state like meditating and conversion experience where their experience has lead them to have a change in belief. I am going to argue for the statement as even from a religious point of view there are many other factors which can explain religious experiences like hallucinations or coincidences. But the main undisputed categories are; corporal experiences, which are experienced by a mass audience, vision experiences, which are when people see God, Hell or Heaven in some sort of semi-conscious state like meditating and conversion experience where their experience has lead them to have a change in belief. One fish, two fish, red fish, blue fish, I wish that society would overcome the crippling and arbitrary views on race and religion. The very concept of dividing and separating members of the humanity based on color and nationality is asinine given that race is a social construct. The insipid and manmade concepts of race and religion has ignited and induced countless bloodshed among individuals who neglect that all participants in the deadly and unnecessary evil of war are members of the human race. The inventions of race and religion have only serve to divide individuals on the values and morals when morality cannot be defined.…

When people say that they have experienced God or the divine in some way; they are not saying that it ‘seemed like’ God but was something else. The issue for many philosophers is: are religious experiences veridical? By this is meant can we actually demonstrate that the religious experiences of people are what they seem to be, i.e. experiences of God, rather than delusions, products of the mind or of some other source such as LSD? Can a person saying they have had a religious experience really be convincing?…

Patel’s lecture made me realize that it is critical to being a human being and living with other human beings to have an awareness and a great sense of respect for all religions. Not being aware of other religion’s practices is like walking through life with your eyes closed. It is not possible to be a well-rounded human being without taking the time to learn about religious traditions of multiple different religions. This is especially important if someone wants to travel to a different country or attend a new church that they have never been to before. According to Patel, people that plan on attending football games should have some sense of different religious practices. Religion is everywhere and if a person isn’t careful or knowledgeable,…

Christians claim that their concept of God is found in the Bible. Known as classical theism, this view of God has long been considered the orthodox theistic position of the Western world. Though there are numerous divine attributes that we could examine, for our present purposes it is sufficient to say that the God of classical theism is at least (1) personal and incorporeal (without physical parts), (2) the Creator and Sustainer of everything else that exists, (3) omnipotent (all-powerful), (4) omniscient (all-knowing), (5) omnipresent (everywhere present), (6) immutable (unchanging) and eternal, and (7) necessary and the only God.…

Many people ask the question, does prayer really work? Many people pray because they were raised up in a home where they grew up praying. The most important aspect of the power of praying is not the result of the individual praying but it is the creator who the individual is praying to, God. God does not answer all prayers. He only answers the ones that are in agreement with his will. We must realize his answers will not always be a yes or the answer we thought we should have but it will be what is best for us, he knows. When you go God in prayer and your prayer is sincere and passionate, God will respond in a powerful way. Some people argue the fact that prayer has no effect on healing or patients. Some believe that there is no power in prayer regarding these. They believe that prayer has absolutely nothing to do with the healing process. But according to Stein “Prayer is an act or practice may vary but in crisis all religions use it as recourse as their source of authority (Stein, 2007).…

Business ethics is a very broad term and widely used throughout the world. The term “business ethics” first started to be used in the United States in the early 1970’s as businesses were growing bigger and more powerful. Business ethics are guidelines or behaviors that businesses and individuals use daily to deal with the world, and even smaller situations they might find themselves in. Race, gender, age and religion all play a role in a person’s ethics. The most important factor in a person’s perspective of business ethics is religion, because there are so many different religious views. Buddhists follow the teachings of Buddha to help with their ethics in business. Christianity uses the Ten Commandments and the teachings of Christ to classify their ethics. The Jewish faith uses the Torah, while Muslims use the Qur’an and the teachings of the Prophet Muhammad to explain their views on business ethics.…
