It is a mixed blessing to be able to see the movie version of a popular book. In most cases, Hollywood veers from the text and the viewer is left with a watered down version of the original. In the case of the Princess Bride, the cinema version is very close to the book. One such scene is Inigo and Fezzik’s visit to Miracle Max in search of a miracle. Setting, conflict, and dialogue are three points of high congruency.…
The actual launch of the Apollo 13 was on April 11, 1970. Two days into the mission it looked like the smoothest flight that the Apollo program had ever seen. "The spacecraft is in real good shape as far as we are concerned. We're bored to tears down here." said Joe Kerwin of mission control (3). At 55 hours the crew held a TV broadcast for 49 minutes where they showed off their living conditions and how they worked in weightless situations. Nine minutes after the broadcast mission control instructed that Odyssey to give their oxygen tanks a stir and moments later oxygen tank No.2 in the service module exploded, due to an exposed fan wire. The eruption then damaged oxygen tank No.1, causing them to start to lose oxygen rapidly. The cover of…
“Metamorphosis stories defy the long list of human limitations; they allow humans to do and be things thought impossible” (class notes). In the story the character Daphne is not able to love and Apollo can only think about love due to Cupid’s arrow. Once Apollo laid his eyes upon Daphne he was instantly in love. His love drove him to confess his feeling towards her, which caused Daphne to feel frightened and run away from the scene. While running away in fear Daphne asks the river to “change and destroy the body” (108). This resulted in Daphne turning into a tree “her hair was leaves, her arms were branches, and her speedy feet rooted and held” (181). A human asking for help from a river and…
There are times in people’s lives when they have to decide if the situation has to be condemned or justified. In this novel Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck, alot of the controversial incidents happened at the peak of ones emotion. This is referring to when George shot Lennie, but this is not the only time in this novel where this had happened.…

as the judges are ignorant of the outside world youth, only take note of higher sources of knowledge, let cops do obscenity things just cuase they are cops, have very one sided views, would put someone in jail for a little small thing…
In the Lord of the Flies William Golding has a group of schoolboys crash on an island and become barbaric. The reason why the boys turn wild is because of their innate primal instinct to hurt others. This innate behavior is inherited from early ancestors killing to stay alive. Mans innate tendency towards violence, how people take sides and divide into groups, and the struggle for power are three ways mans behavior will generally occur. Each of these suggests that violence is a key factor to getting what they want.…
Apollo God of the sun, Hermes God of messaging, which is just what movie franchises have blown out of proportion and lead us to believe, a fallacy of what their true character is. Before the Greek era Apollo was know as Lycian meaning “wolflike” this could have meant that he was the protector of shepherds from wolves or had some divine connection with wolves. And also seen with a bow he would also be referenced as the archer god yet he had no connection to hunters, but was know for plagues. His arrows shafts contained death itself and when shot from the heavens they were unseen and unlucky to those who crossed paths with it. Apollo was most notable for the third eye he gave to certain mortals especially his oracle at Delphi and even more notable for his musical skills on the lyre. In our definition of Greek myth Apollo was the God of Shamans, giving knowledge to mortals through prophecy that gave them the ability’s of healing and with his additional musical skills to society he was the ideal young aristocrat of ancient Greek time to look up too. On the other hand his brother Hermes was a complete opposite of his older brother. Hermes was associated with travel in ancient Greek time; for a safe journey travelers would throw rocks into a pile and with this function he also protected thieves and anyone else who paid tribute to his protection. Hermes name can be translated to “herma= Stone heap” and “ bad guys” , stone heap for obvious reasons people would toss rocks into a pile for safe journeys and bad guys because he was also know for his trickery. In The Homeric Hymn To Hermes it states that “Maia’s infant was clever, a swindler, a robber, a liar, rustler of cattle, fast talker, burglar and cracker of safes” Hermes from this passage is not the ideal aristocrat to look up too. Both Apollo and Hermes were sons of Zeus both Gods were opposite in their nature and duties. Apollo is the “aristoi” a medicine man, noble, young, rich, established, righteous, musical,…
In both stories the girls, Pomana and Daphne, have decided to shun away men and never to fall in love. Both Vertumnus and Apollo see these women from afar for their first meeting and instantly deeply fall in love. In both stories the ending revolves around one key aspect of transformation. In Pomona and Vertumnus, Vertumnus transformed into his true divine form “and stood revealed to her as when the sun Triumphs in glory through the clouds and rain....his beauty wins the day” it is in seeing this that makes Pomona fall in love with Vertumnus. It is the transformation of in Apollo and Daphne however that makes these two stores very different from one another. In this story Daphne unlike Pomona does not have a change in her feeling towards men and instead begs her father to take away her beauty so he changes her into a laurel tree. Although these stories have key similarities between the main characters, they both are very different in the way the stories play out and especial their…
God of light, music, arts, knowledge, healing, plague and darkness, prophecy, poetry, purity, athletism, manly beauty, and enlightenment. He is the son of Zeus and Leto, and the twin brother of Artemis. As brother and sister, they were identified with the sun and moon; both use a bow and arrow. In the earliest myths, Apollo contends with his half-brother Hermes. In sculpture, Apollo was depicted as a very handsome, beardless young man with long hair and an ideal physique. As the embodiment of perfectionism, he could be cruel and destructive, and his love affairs were rarely happy. His attributes include the laurel wreath and lyre. He often appears in the company of the Muses. Animals sacred to Apollo include roe deer, swans, cicadas, hawks, ravens, crows, foxes, mice, and snakes.…
She had three girls, Eris, goddess of strife, Hebe, the goddess of youth and Eileithyia, the goddess of childbirth and labor pains. Hera also had two sons, namely, Ares and Hephaestus. Ares was the god of war while Hephaestus was the god of fire, metalworking, stonemasonry and the art of sculpture.…
Love is anonymous. It is superior to everything that matters. Love is a test, that sometimes can be failed, or sometimes can be worth those one- hundred points. Love is messy, and unorganized, it spills over the edges of everyones life. When love is controlled, it is complicated to figure out how to deal with it. It can have a good or bad ending. Confusion can occur when the love is tampered with. It can be saved with re-uniting of the love, and then living a happy ending. Many love connections are effected somehow either that person doing it to themselves, or someone else who mixes the love relationships up . Confusion within the love can cause misconception and turn into a disaster amongst each other. In Midsummer Nights Dream by Shakespeare the confusion of love relationships mixes up each persons views of one another, but in the end everyone is rejoined and the loves are once again in their right place. All confusion, reconciliation, and celebration are used in each scene to create problems, but then find a solution.…

This myth is to describe how the two trees on the top of a hill in the Phrygia valley came to be. Mercury was bored of the delicacies of the heavens, when this would happen he would descend down to earth from the havens seeking adventure. His companion was always Jupiter, let’s just say he was not only the wittiest of all the gods but he was the biggest party boy. When they came down to earth they disguised themselves as beggars and went from door to door asking for a place to stay or just a bite to eat. From the largest mansions to the smallest huts the duo was rejected by each and every person. That is until they came to the ugliest smallest hut they had seen so far, this was the home of Baucis and Philemon. Philemon described their economic situation when she said “… poverty isn’t so bad when your willing to own up to it …” (2,151) When they knocked on the door and asked for food the couple welcomed them in to their home with graciousness and hospitality. For dinner Baucis and Philemon gave the duo the best food they could afford. Philemon being very loquacious Baucis did all the serving. As she poured her guests wine, the bottle never lost substance. Baucis and Philemon felt remorseful for the food being so scarce, so they set out to kill their best goose for their guests. Both of them chased the goose in circles until they were out of breath and could chase no longer. At this the the duo saw the kindness in their hearts and revealed that Baucis and…
