What are the 3 or more best practices you learned about using the internet for academic purposes? First and foremost it is important that a student keeps a clear focus on what will be researched. Focusing on not being sidetracked by all the web has to offer. Examine the URL. Examine the short description of the website, see if that is the sort of information you want to use. When you feel confident that you have enough resources and material to start your paper it is best to organize that material. What I do to organize my material, (especially if I am in a hurry) is I ‘screenshot’ a page and save it to a new folder-naming it SCHOOL. Or I ‘Book Mark’ information I feel I will use daily, that I know is reliable and valid and useful in what ever it is I need. Another practice I learned about using the Internet for Academic purposes is it is a good idea to examine the ‘Related Search’ list also. Save time, do not click every single link, researching from the Internet is extremely time consuming especially since you are expected to verify an Author and see if the material you will be using is reputable and worthwhile. Which leads me into the next question.

How can you determine if the information on the website is reputable and worthwhile for a research paper? The very first way is to examine the URL. For example, any websites that use .edu are a University or a Research Institution. Websites that use .gov is a government website.
So of course that is reliable and already verified. I learned that .org is a non-profit organization/advocacy groups. Be careful with obtaining information from an advocacy group because of the non-profit status they are highly political and lean a certain way.
If you do use any thing by .org just be sure to acknowledge that view in your research paper. Any websites that imply or ask you for any kind of monetary value are most likely going to be biased, and or misrepresent the
