AHU System
Discussion
The AHU and air distribution layout design for Block H is determined form cooling load calculation. There are several parameters and assumptions taken into account during the calculation. One of the assumption made is that the building has just been refurbish so air infiltration is minimize. The calculation part consists of the external load, internal load, total cooling load, duct sizing, piping sizing and AHU specifications. Since it will be used for commercial building, the system comprises of air-conditioning all the rooms in the whole building block except for the toilet which will use mechanical ventilation. Air Handling Unit (AHU) will be placed in a small room at the end of the block near the toilet. This is to maximize the utilization of space for functional usage rather than to take up the space for AHU system. It will also be easier in terms of maintenance wise since it is at the far end of the building and not enclosed between the rooms. Since the AHU system is separated from the room it make it more comfortable for the occupants because AHU will release heat and also noise due to vibration of equipment and auxiliaries. The system is also slightly overdesigned to make it easier for future expansion to ensure sustainability. Furthermore, since the system will degrade by time in terms of its performance and efficiency it is best to slightly overdesigned it.

Conclusion
The air-conditioning system layout for Block H is done comprising of cooling load calculation, determination of air distribution layout and AHU specifications and locations. Several assumptions are made during the calculation process and the best possible layout is designed to meet the required function as a commercial building. Other considerations such as occupants comfort, safety, economic aspect and sustainability are taken into consideration as well. To account for future expansion and degradation of efficiency over time, the system is slightly over designed.

Upon our current situation, size is one of the crucial parts to be improved with our warehouse. 80,000-square-foot and low ceilings are apparently insufficient for efficient 53-foot trailers to work and cannot provide enough space for docks so that they have to load and unload materials much timely and is not convenient for customers picking up their freights. Compared with popular warehouse layouts, the six-story layout is less efficient because it uses elevators and chutes conveying items between each floor and adds complexity to the overall process. The old building has not done yet, but it can barely keep good condition for work. The weak floors cannot burden the heavy equipments like fork lifters and the elevators are always out of work which exacerbates the inefficiency. Besides, with the low-tech equipments we have, warehouse cannot stock various kinds of items. For instance, if we have a modern-design warehouse system, we will have more abilities to store items which are fragile, flammable, short-shelf-life or easy to cracked. The working environment is also not up to expectation. Fallen paint peels make workers sick while they are working.…

AC Load: The duty of the air conditioning system is to compensate for other thermal loads so that the cabin temperature remains within the acceptable comfort range. In cold weather conditions, positive AC load (heating) is required for the cabin. Inversely, in warm conditions, negative AC load (cooling) is needed for maintaining the comfort conditions. The actual load created by the AC system depends on the system parameters and working conditions. In this work, it is assumed that an AC (or heat pump) cycle is providing the thermal load calculated by…

Rising demand for tenant space in commercial buildings and an ever-increasing focus on reducing energy consumption have created numerous challenges for designers and contractors. These challenges include the requirement for mechanical room optimisation and energy recovery or free cooling systems such as water-side economisers, geothermal heating/cooling and deep-lake water cooling. There is now, more than ever, a growing demand for compact heat exchangers capable of transferring heat at low approach temperatures to achieve greater temperature crossing, which saves energy. In addition, factors such as global warming, high frequency of building conversions, and tighter plant rooms have led to a demand for heat exchangers that can be maintained easily and are flexible with regards to future expansion.…
