I have selected the persuasive writing genre to investigate the question "Should regulations regarding payment to college athletes be changed?" for two reasons. The first reason is that this issue is very complex, and this paper is geared to focus in on answering a set narrow, objective questions to get to heart of the issue so the average person can have a factual view of this issue. The persuasive writing genre helps me address the following questions when engaged in the research of this subject: What do I plan to accomplish, why you want to research this particular topic, and how I'm going to do it. The second reason is that this genre is intended to convince my instructor, audience, and others that this is worthwhile research topic and that I have the competence and the work-plan to complete it.…

Sexual activity among inmates is a complex phenomenon that occurs along a continuum, from the entirely consensual to the violently coerced. The New York Times detailed a gang-run system of sexual slavery in a Texas prison, where at least 1 gay inmate claimed he was bought and sold numerous times and “forced into oral sex and anal sex on a daily basis.”9 Recent federal legislation called for research into the prevalence and patterns of rape and other sexual victimization within correctional facilities to inform policy changes aimed at controlling these abuses.9 A Human Rights Watch report presented accounts of sexual slavery from inmates in Texas, Illinois, Michigan, California, and Arkansas and asserted that sexual victimization threatens inmates’ essential human rights.10…

There has been a significant change in privacy laws over the past decade since the September 11, 2011. If security versus privacy trade-off is biased in favor of security, particularly in times of public insecurity, there is reason to fear that we may too easily sacrifice rights and freedoms such as privacy. (Chandler, 2011) We are entitled to our personal privacy and it should not be invaded for purposes of national security. The purpose of this research paper is to investigate the changes in privacy laws which have affected our personal freedoms and determine whether national security is more important than personal privacy. The hypothesis for this investigation is to prove personal privacy has a greater importance over national security.…

There is no doubt now that climate change and global warming are synonymous. This phenomenon is felt worldwide and is continuing to wreck havoc which has created the “greenhouse” effect. Climate change is a result of human actions, it didn’t occur naturally. Nine of the eleven hottest years in the 20th century have occurred since 1985, which is not consistent with a natural trend. Studies show that the surface temperature of the earth has been increasing at a rate of 0.17 degrees Celsius per decade. Increased carbon dioxide in the atmosphere may alter the surface temperature through the “greenhouse” effect. These altered environmental states change the living conditions of organisms and animals that transmit diseases, and will lead to specific health problems, ranging from increases in infectious diseases to problems due to heat stress, among others. Any restrictions that are put forward must balance the needs of the environment with the needs of industry. Unfortunately, it will hurt many economies, the only question is which countries will it pose a threat to, and by how much.…

While obtaining the information for my junior research project I came across something that I felt was a major problem. This problem that I realized is what I am planning on doing for my junior research project. I realized that a certain thing has slowly been wreaking havoc on our communities. This was such an interesting thing because it is the main study of the scientist that I want to be. I realized I want to grow up and be a microbiologist to be those scientists who study bacteria, virus, fungi and the thing that all communities are facing parasites. I want to be a microbiologist to help our communities and to help aware our fellow man about what’s out there. I feel this job will really help our communities because so many people have pets today and don’t realize what their pets bring into the house every day. The carry ticks, fleas and attract mosquitoes which are some of the main insects to transmit parasites and slowly kill your body from within. This is an important thing to me because I have pets myself and constantly walk them through woods and grasslands. They have attracted all kinds of bugs and insects and I haven’t realized how this can affect me, but I plan on changing that. Through knowledge though we can stop and help save our communities and our physical well being.…
