A Man's Best Friend
“He is your friend, your partner, your defender, and your dog. You are his life, his love, and his leader. He will be yours, faithful, and true, to the last beat of his heart. You owe it to him to be worthy of such devotion.” –Unknown.
There are a lot of things that dogs do for us as people and that is why dogs are usually referred to as man's best friend. A dog is a great pet to have because it is good for your health, they can make good guards, and they provide you with the emotional stimulus you need.
Having a pet dog improves your physical and mental wellbeing. Pets encourage you to get out and exercise. Whether we walk our dogs because they need it, or are more likely to enjoy a walk when we have companionship, dog owners do spend more time walking than non-pet owners. Because exercise is good for stress management and overall health, owning a dog can be credited with increasing these benefits. Pets can help with social support. When you’re out walking, having a dog with you can make you more approachable and give people a reason to stop and talk to you, increasing the number of people you meet, giving you an opportunity to increase your network of friends and acquaintances. As many benefits as pets bring, it's important not to become too dependent on those animal companions. Though they make great companions, in the end pets are still no substitute for human friends and family. Dogs are great protectors. Take a walk in the park with your dog and watch what happens if another person or animal threatens you, even playfully. Your dog may well be in the attacker's face, fangs bared, in a courageous act of self-sacrifice to protect you. Your dog may guard your house when you are asleep or away. If you are asleep, they might bark at the slightest noise that they hear and wait close by the door to make sure nobody enters that is not supposed to. Dogs also make great nighttime barkers to scare away burglars. Both guard dogs and watchdogs bark loudly to alert
