a dream to come true
A Dream Yet To Come True
I had set a goal to achieve good grades to get a gift promised by my parents which would be anything of my choice. I always dreamt and wanted to have a puppy. It all started on the 4th of October at 8:00 am the day before my exams.
I was in my bedroom studying for my first exam paper which was commerce. While I was studying a thought crossed my mind. “Are my dreams going to turn into reality, if I answer all my papers exceedingly well and pass out with high grades?” With this thought I rushed to my parents bedroom and told them that I am definitely going to pass out with high grades and questioned them whether they would keep their promise. The reply I t was very assertive. That gave me the zest to study very hard. I came to my room and said to myself that I can make it. I began with my studies so seriously that I barely took breaks so much so that I went asleep while I was studying. During that short nap I had a dream. In my dream I imagined myself in my bedroom listening to music and my parents just entered my room. I was wondering if I was in trouble or if I did anything wrong. It took me by surprise when my mom placed a big box on my bed. All of a sudden I woke up and heard my mom calling me down for dinner, thereafter took a break and went back to my room to study. Knowing that tomorrow was my first paper I decided to go to bed early and wake up fresh.
Finally it was the day of my first exam, I was completely nervous and tensed, but was determined to do my best. While I was answering my paper I was very delighted as I answered the paper very well. After school I went home and declared to my parents that the paper was fantastic. The exams went on for a week, but I was not comfortable with my math’s and science papers although I tried my best. As the days passed by it was time for my results. My parents and I went to school to collect my report card. We met the teacher; she was overall happy with my results but said that I

Today is perhaps one of the most important days of my life. It is the day I take my placement exam that determines which major you will be put into at the higher learning institution. Shakily I finish getting dressed for the day, I am adorned in a pair of navy pants and a grey button up with the number 84 on the cuff. Each year the society gives a number to every child born. I was the 84th child of the year so that is the number I was assigned, many of my other classmates have number ranging from 20 to over 200. I slip out of my room and jog to the end of my hall barely catching the last lift to the 97th floor where the test is administered. Not everyone gets invited to secondary school, for 75% of the world primary is the end, they didn’t pass, and would be taught trade jobs with little opportunity for advancement. Due to this pressure of the test looms over me and the memory of leaving my mother and family take over my mind almost daily.…

It was me breaking down at night,I had to decide what path to take. Days and weeks of being questioned what was I going to do or being told what I had to do. I know that what everyone told me wasn't with bad intentions, they wanted the best for me and their mindset only allowed them to have a certain way of thinking what success looked like for me. It was 3:20 a.m., I was able to hear the clock tick. I had decided, a four year college wasn't going to be the path I took right after graduating. I never had bad intentions, I didn't want to let no one down. At one point I was willing to give it all up for them but I realized I wouldn't be content. I had to do what my heart and gut told me and that was to start of at junior college.…

Me being the impatient but helpful person I am I said “yeah sure”. So I moved this little box that any kid in my class could have easily moved outside of her moving it herself. She stopped what she was doing at her cabinet and she showed me my final exam grade and it said 89% B+. A surprised me began smiling excited that I would pass the class with almost a B average for the year. She looked at me and said “T, you are smart. You have given me 40% effort and still somehow you still have managed to pass my class, I struggle dealing with students who are incapable but try hard every single day and you don't show me any effort and still manage to do have a decent grade…” “Why are you afraid? You are easily one of the most gifted students I have encountered and you show no effort?”. I just sat there lost and confused and wondered how she knew and wonder why I had wasted all this time not living up to my full potential, I had let my fear of failure keep me from being the best student I could be. I now look at it and regret the decisions I made in the past. Everyday i have learned to allow myself have higher expectations than I have before. There was a lesson in what my teacher said to me and I will…

I headed to my first class which just so happened to be my favorite subject, English. The hallways were very wide but when filled with students I felt like I had to shove my way through just to get to my locker. The lockers were a mixture between Gray and purple. The school colors were supposed to be purple and silver but there was no way that these lockers could be considered. I took a look at the little piece of paper that the lady in the office had given me and tried out the combination on my locker. It took me about five minutes to open it and after struggling for that long I was a little irritated so when it did open, it flew open and slammed into the locker next to mine. I held my breath and hoped that nobody had noticed. I took a long deep breath and slowly opened my eyes again. Luckily I was still standing alone and nobody around was looking at me. I put my extra books and notebooks into the locker and and closed it as quietly as I could.…

This poem by Langston Hughes is a very complicated. In it the speaker paints a picture of what might happen to someone’s dream if it is postponed too long. This idea is the overall theme of the poem and it is what unifies and connects each line to the poem as a whole. There are also indirect references that this is not only the dream of an individual, but an entire race’s struggle to achieve peace and liberation. This poem consists of a series of answers to the question, “What happens to a dream deferred?” All of the lines following this first question are presented as different similes.…

The night before, I had checked my grades because I would be anxious all the time due to me trying to be a perfectionist in school. I had an A- (94%). I was then thinking in my head “Ok, I'm doing good so far, but I need to keep it up or it'll slip and fall like when you're on a wet rock” until the next day when we took an f.a 1.3 in Math. When I walked into class that day I looked on the board on what we were going to do, it said “f.a 1.3”. I was so nervous that in my head, I asked myself, “Do you get it, is there anything you need help with?”…

That afternoon after school, I was playing my computer with my friends in my room. The house was quiet.
