The Heartbreak Kid
“All The Same” by Sick Puppies
In the visual representation the common themes represented were friendship, relationship and acceptance. The three text chosen to illustrate these themes were ‘The Heartbreak Kid‘, ‘December Boys‘, and ‘All The Same by Sick Puppies‘.
In ‘The Heartbreak Kid‘, the theme of relationships is shown by the main character Nicky and his ‘love’ for his teacher Miss Papadopolous. In the visual representation, pictures of ‘lovers’ holding hand and kissing were used to represent this theme. This theme is also shown in the ‘December Boys’ with the relationship between Maps and Lucy. In the song ‘All The Same’ the theme of relationship is conveyed in the words: “And I'll take you for who you are”
“If you take me for everything”.
In the visual representation the theme of friendship is shown by pictures of friends and families. In ‘December Boys’ this is a strong theme throughout the film, with the characters Maps, Misty, Spit, and Sparks. These four boys are orphans which have grown up with each other. Their friendship is very strong. This is also portrayed in the film clip of Free Hugs Campaign, people hugging each other.
In the visual representation the theme of acceptance is displayed by images of the two men shaking hands, the two cats hugging and in the film clip of Free Hugs Campaign when people hug complete strangers. In the film ‘December Boys’ this theme is shown by how the four boys stood by each other even when one boy destroys ones hope of being adopted. This theme is also portrayed in the lyrics of the song ’All The Same’: “Wrong or Right”“Black or White”“If I close my eyes”“Its all the same”. This means no matter what you are your all the same.
